I taught guitar for many years in Memphis, TN. My bands played many of the local establishments and I met a lot of famous people( no name dropping it's not my style) and did get a chance to play with them on occasion. I got my first guitar when I was 4 and played my first show when I was 10. I teach mainly by ear but do utilize tab to make things simpler to start out.
