About
It's true, you can choose from many Voice Over coaches. But which Coach has over 30 years experience? is also a VO talent and has worked in many VO genres? which Coach offers up to 4 demos and also PRODUCES each demo personally? which Coach also teaches you how to run your VO business and market your VO business? and which coach casts you in actual TV & radio spots?
We are BIG VOICE Productions, LLC and we've trained nearly 500 students in the art and business of Voice Over since 1998, right here in Columbus, OH. Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, our training is private, one-on-one, in-studio with the coach, Ron Allan. You are not just a number! We train comprehensively using a workbook filled with a series of exercises, actual hands-on and voice-on the mic, as well as the recording software. Ron is very patient with every student and wants each student to be fully prepared at graduation. You may be cast in actual TV and/or radio commercials during your training...plus recieve the audio or video files too! The Pro Package is 32 weekly sessions.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Ron Allan has over 30 years experience as a Voice actor, audio engineer, broadcast copy writer, audio post-producer as well as over 20 years experience trainining nearly 500 students in the art and business of Voice Over.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
BIG VOICE Productions offers several lesson packages! It all starts with a $49 pre-paid, 90-minute consultation, either by phone, SKYPE or in-person. Our training packages start at $500 for a QuickStart, up to $5,800 for our Pro Package. Since every student has unique goals, there is no standard pricing system, however we do offer in-house financing options and a variety of flexible payment terms!
How did you get started teaching?
BIG VOICE Productions got started teaching Voice Over/Acting as a springboard from our 20+ year broadcast experience and by referrals from local talent agents and production houses in Columbus, OH. After several years of operating only by referrals, we developed a formal curriculum for our comprehensive training programs.
What types of students have you worked with?
Actually, what types of students HAVEN'T we worked with would take less time to answer...because we've trained such a variety of students! From ages 6 to 80, male, female, husband/wife, Mother/daughter, two sisters, students with autism, and either in-person or over SKYPE.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
That's easy! Because we have "recent events" every month here at BIG VOICE Productions. We founded a local Meetup group called "Voice Over Pros of Central Ohio" that is a support/networking group over 500 members strong! Our monthly meetups cover various Voice Over themes and include a wide variety of guest speakers, both national and local. Plus we offer a chance to compete, win prizes, and much more. We also host a wide variety of Voice Over workshops for continuing education throughout the year.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
A prospective student should ask a teacher about their experience in the business as a talent as well as their experience in how many others they have been blessed to instruct. If possible, the student should conduct a live interview with the teacher, asking and answering questions with full transparency about desired goals and objectives. Finally, a good Voice Over teacher/coach should also be able to produce high-quality demos as well as offer opportunities for actual work in their field.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Question #1: do I have the available resources to pursue this field of training?
Question #2: on a scale of 1-10 (10 being highest) how serious am I about learning the art and business of Voice Over?
Question #3: am I willing to put in the work required to achieve my goals?
Question #4: do I posess the self-discipline required to see my training through to completion, then take the necessary steps to follow through and sustain my business?
