Hello, Central Oregon! I'm Deena Kamm. I've been a professional singer and performer for my entire adult life. I grew up in Southern California and started singing right when I graduated from my high school, Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, where I was actually a dance major. I was fortunate to start working as a singer very soon after I stopped dancing. Throughout my career I've had amazing opportunities, like performing on huge stages in front of thousands of people with my band, but I've also had bizarre jobs that paid the bills like being a bunch of purple grapes and the Salad Bar Delight live action musical at the LA County Fair for an entire Summer. I've been hired to sing for NBC, CBS, MTV, Clear Channel Radio, I Heart Radio, Premiere Radio Networks, the Howard Stern show, countless radio stations across the country, and studio sessions for recording artists both as a lead singer and a background vocalist.
I spent much of my music career in Los Angeles, California, working with bands, studios and producers. I have toured around the country as a lead singer and songwriter of my own band, Unruly Helga, for over 15 years. I've performed in just about every kind of situation and establishment possible and worked with musicians, producers, concert promoters, and managers from all over the world. From those experiences I gained immense knowledge about singing, performing, and having to be an artist in many different facets.
In 2010 I left LA and moved to Bend, Oregon with my husband and son. I started teaching voice in 2014 as a response to several friends who were seeking vocal lessons and confidence building techniques for either themselves or their kids. It turns out I love teaching and helping others find their voice! I believe everyone has the need and the right to sing. We are born with the perfect tools - we just have to learn what they are and how they work. Even if you aren't "good", you should be able to experience the sound of your own voice at the top of your lungs with both ease and power. Anyone, at any level, can try, learn, and excel at using their own voice. I'd be happy to be a part of your journey in finding your voice and offering you a safe place to let it out. Singing is something everyone can do! If you can talk - you can sing. It feels great and it's amazingly fun at any level.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first time we meet we will discuss breathing and do very little singing. After that we typically work for a half hour on skills and warming up. And then another half hour on singing a song of your choice.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over 30 years of hand on experience both on stages, in studios, and in front of cameras. My style and method is geared to people who want to sing rock, pop, or other mainstream music.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My lesson rate is $65/hour lesson.
How did you get started teaching?
I was always being aksed to teach - one day I just gave in and said yes. :-P
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all ages and levels of students and for all different reasons. Everyone has thier own reason for wanting to explore thier voice. I am open to any of it. It's all valuable.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure you feel comfortable opening up to your teacher. Singnig is one of the most vunerable things you can do in front of other people. You have to feel supported and encouraged to fail while learning how to do it well. the learning comes from pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone. If you don't get there you really can't imporve your instrument.
