About

ResonateYou is owned by Jennifer Lobo, a voice teacher with a sincere passion for helping people understand their own voice and help them “get out of the dark.” Through listening, nurturing, and challenging ways, I meet you where you’re at to reach your goals.

I use a unique combination of the following:

Somatic (of the body) Voicework/The LoVetri Method®

Intuitive and Empathic skills to “feel” what your voice and body are doing

Technical mastery and proficiency of music and styles (CCM).

I also draw from 20 years of teaching background of individual voice students. I am happy to express that teaching online has translated well with this experience.

Training:

Gettysburg College

New York University

LoVetri Somatic Voicework Method®

Singing is a joy(!), and I help you get there through one-on-one coaching and learning that YOUR body is YOUR instrument!

I teach mostly Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) styles: Music Theatre, Pop, Rock, Jazz, Folk, R&B, Soul, etc.)

I also specialize in Vocal Sound Meditation for self-care: sustaining long notes or intoning on the chakras to help you release your voice so that it can be an instrument for physiological healing in the body.

“I am blown away but the amount of knowledge Jennifer brings to her teaching. She is a gifted, patient teacher. Jennifer also works well with my daughter on the emotional/spiritual side of sharing her voice.”

“Jennifer is the reason I truly learned how to sing properly. I had some understanding about the physicality of singing, but she not only furthered my scientific understanding of my vocals and such, but exquisitely taught the art of singing and performing; learning how to mix, for example, is one of the most valuable tools I learned from Jennifer. In addition, she navigates when to push/encourage her students, getting them out of their comfort zones thus improving their vocal abilities and gaining confidence in themselves.”

    Frequently asked questions

Before we begin working together, we will have an initial, free consultation to go over goals, expectations, and policies.

I will first listen to your voice to be able to empathetically feel what’s going on in your body (throat, placement, registration, jaw, ribcage, abdominal muscles, etc.) as you sing. That way, I am able to give feedback and information to inform your body.

I will also establish a common language of terms so that we can use as benchmarks to be able to communicate easily together. These terms also introduce you to the world of voice work.

Once we establish goals and expectations, the learning is not a standard study for everyone. I meet you where you are at and we begin there, which is why you are having an individual private lesson. The learning is not necessarily linear, or the same line for each person. I might begin at point A for one person, point J for another, and point XYZ for someone else. This is completely crafted for YOUR VOICE.

What becomes linear, however, is that YOU WILL MAKE PROGRESS!

    I offer:

    1.) Pay-As-You-Go lessons, which are a little more than a $1/minute.

    OR

2.) Monthly Plans, where you enroll in Weekly or Every/Other week lessons for at least one month, paying at the start of the month, the amount of each is lesson is approx. $1/minute. ($30 for 30 min., etc.)

I began teaching after I attend a Voice Seminar in Italy with Swarthmore College, a couple of years after I graduated from my undergrad. I started teaching out of my home and loved it immediately. I went onto study further vocal pedagogy to get certification in teaching voice. I have been at many different studios, and now own my own studio: www.resonateyou.com

All ages. 8 to 88! Whether it's young kiddos in elementary school, helping middle schoolers figure out their voices, supporting high schoolers get into college for music theatre, helping post-college adults figure out their next steps, or meeting retirees and helping them learn something they've always wanted to do!

In the last six months, I transitioned to online teaching. It was a bumpy ride initially, getting to know the interface, software, timing, and everything.

BUT, I found out, it really works. I am amazed at how well it works!

Because I’ve been teaching in person for so long, I am still able to pick up the nuanced sounds of the voice and the body information of the student on the other side of the screen.

AND I am still able to communicate effectively across the screen, in a life-giving, personal way, to encourage vocal growth in each client: any age, and in any CCM style.

Talk to her or him and sing. Trust your instincts.

Ask them their pedagogy of CCM training (Contemporary Commercial Music: anything that is pop, rock, folk, contemporary, R&B, Soul, Jazz, etc.).

What is the interface in their online offering?

I use MyMusicStaff for scheduling, zoom links, invoicing, lessons notes, policies, procedures, and online resources.

What are your goals and timeline?

What styles are you interested in singing?

Listen to your heart, not just your head. What is it telling you?
