Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
All lessons are held online via Zoom.
I start by discussing a student's musical background and goals, and we move forward from there. Since classical technique is the basis of healthy singing in all genres, I always begin a student with classical music as well as their genre of choice. I also strive to help my students develop healthy practice techniques that will help them succeed as musicians and that are also easily transferrable to other skills.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a professional opera singer, with a Master of Music degree from Temple University and a Bachelor of Music degree from Gettysburg College. At Gettysburg, I distinguished myself not only as a performer but also as a teacher, and I served as a Peer Learning Associate, tutoring students, running review sessions, and occasionally giving guest lectures. At Temple, I was awarded a teaching assistantship, and I taught Class Voice for Non-Majors as well as private lessons for theatre majors and non-voice majors.
As a performer, I have sung in the US, Canada, and Europe. Operatic highlights include With Blood, With Ink (Dying Juana), Les contes d'Hoffmann (Giulietta), La voix humaine (Elle), Le pauvre matelot (Sa femme), Don Giovanni (Donna Anna), Così fan tutte (Fiordiligi), and Dido and Aeneas (Dido). I also love theater, and I have appeared in Fiddler on the Roof (Fruma Sarah), How to Succeed… (Miss Jones), Into the Woods (Cinderella), In the Next Room… (Catherine Givings), The Scarlet Pimpernel (Marguerite), Kiss Me, Kate (Lilli/Kate), Noises Off (Belinda/Flavia), The Wedding Singer (Julia), and Guys and Dolls (Sarah).
I have received awards from the Boyer College of Music and Dance, National Association of Teachers of Singing, Presser Foundation, Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Sunderman Conservatory, and Chester County Choral Society.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I offer one 20-minute trial lesson for $20 to see if we're a good fit. If you decide to join the studio, that $20 will be credited to your first month's tuition!
Lessons are billed monthly. Rates for monthly students are 4 half-hour lessons for $160, 4 forty-five minute lessons for $200, and 4 hour lessons for $240. I also offer one-off, drop-in lessions for a premium rate. Payment plans may be available for students experiencing financial hardship, evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
What types of students have you worked with?
I accept all students ages 7+. I am as comfortable working with kids as I am with high schoolers and adults.
