I have well over thirty years in vocal coaching, choral direction, performance, composing and arranging. I have performed within a number of genres, including opera, operetta, musical comedy, classical art song, folk song and madrigal/Renaissance groups. I am a member of NATS, RIMEA, AOSA and NAfME. I have a number of businesses including The Shanteyman: Music of the Sea and Middle School Musicals. I possess a Bachelor of Music form Bowling Green State University and a Master's from Rhode Island College.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We begin with some questions: Have you ever studied voice privately before? With whom? What do you want to get out of the lessons? What style of music are interested in? What are three (or more) of your favorite songs? Who are your favorite artists. Are you interested in performance? Solo? Do you presently sing in an ensemble? On your own? Have you noted any vocal health problems? Do you want to study other areas concurrently, such as theory, sight-singing, etc?
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's and a Master's in music (vocal/choral.) I aslo have a great deal of experience in vocal training, choral direction (adults and children,) as well as experience in performancee/direction, theatrical, musical, etc.

Yes. $25 per (30 minute) lesson or $90 per month.
How did you get started teaching?
I have been coaching singers and choristers since 1978.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages, all levels, but mostly amateurs who wish to improve their technique, ear or are preparing for competition, auditions or performance.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I have directed many, many choral programs over the years and I have directed or performed in a lot of theatrical performances. My brand new "Everybody Chorus" has been rehearsing of late and the folks, all rank beginners, old and young are singing their hearts out! Nothing like it....
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
You need to take the leap and find a teacher. Once you have done that make sure that teacher has your best interests in mind, that is, if you are uncomfortable with the instruction, find another teacher. If you are uncomfortable with the music that is being offered-speak up. The relationship has to be professional but you will be sharing deeply personal expression through your singing and you have to trust your teacher.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Am I willing to practice? Otherwise, the questions will crop up in the lessons and it's up to the student to be honest about concerns, etc.
