It is a complete joy to watch Taryn work with my daughter. Taryn’s credentials are unbelievable and her talent and ability to work with children is a true gift to our family. I highly recommend Taryn for lessons and thank you Holly for providing the top talent!

I am a 13-year-old who has been a part of Miss Kim’s piano class for six years. There are many things that I have learned from Miss Kim, but among the most inspiring is her attitude to constantly stay positive and keep working towards a goal. Miss Kim has taught me this lesson over and over in her teaching and it has truly inspired me as a student to keep working for her with a positive attitude.
There is another great part of Miss Kim’s style which involves showing the student as opposed to telling them. This is made certainly evident by her constant playing for the students to listen, instead of telling them what to do with no example. She is truly a masterful teacher who labors hard and joyfully for her students.

Mallory is not only kind, approachable, and skilled, but my son says she’s also a lot of fun! He’s only six years old, yet he’s progressing quickly, largely due to Mallory’s patience and encouragement. He looks forward to his lessons, and because his time with Mallory is a fun, positive experience, he wants to practice regularly at home. I have recommended Mallory to my friends and strongly believe in her abilities as a teacher. I’m excited to watch my son’s musical skills advance with Mallory’s guidance and expertise.

For about nine years, I was blessed to be Mrs. Davis’ piano and voice student. Throughout my time with her, she encouraged me to reach my potential my giving me challenging work that advanced my skills. As my teacher, she passed on her vast musical knowledge to me. She really helped me blossom as a vocalist at my church. Also, she simply was a kind person, who genuinely cared about me. I highly recommend Mrs. Davis as a music teacher. She has a passion for music and for her students!

Shelby is teaching my 6 year old daughter, Wren, both piano and voice lessons and has done such an amazing job with her! My daughter, who can be a little bit shy, has come out of her shell! Shelby knows exactly how to make her feel comfortable and encourage her just when she needs the boost of confidence. After her lesson today, she was raving about how much fun she had! I am so glad that we found her for Wren’s teacher!

Holly has brought out the best in my son and piano has been very instrumental in his life. Holly has demonstrated that practice and determination, combined with a desire for perfection are the tools to master the piano. His insight into music theory and his love for the great composers has formed a great foundation to understand the enjoyment of playing this instrument. She has encouraged my son and built up his confidence and creative side. It has been such a delight to listen to my son play the pieces Holly has taught him. She has understanding and lots of patience!

    Frequently asked questions

Everyone's process is slightly different! With an extensive team of instructors, students are able to be paired with a teacher whose approach, interests, and styles of teaching best matches the student's needs.

All of our instructors either have a college degree in music or 4+ years of teaching experience! Additionally, every instructor completes a background check before joining our team.

Yes! You can view our tuition at scmusiclessons.com/tuition

In addition to owning SC Music Lessons, I am a eductor myself. Music has always been a huge part of my life. From the time I was a little girl I was fascinated with all musical instruments, but especially the piano. When I was 4 years old, my parents decided to enroll me in private piano lessons. My teacher instilled in me the joy of learning by her enthusiasm, patience, and encouragement to learn various styles of music.

During college I began teaching and over the years I have taught students ranging in age from 5 to 75 and discovered my love of training the next generation of pianists. Many of our instructors have had different paths that led them to teaching music. You can learn more about each of them on our website!

Every student's focus and goals are different and we work to meet each student where they are in order to provide the best experience. Students have come to us who are pursuing music for their own enjoyment as a hobby and others who are training for an audition or want to pursue the school of the arts. With board-certified music therapists on our team, some come to lessons to use music as a tool for self-expression and coping. We have been fortunate to work with students of all ages and backgrounds!

There is so much I love about teaching! I'd encourage you to visit https://youtu.be/m1mHEgJVNwg to hear me share and see some of our wonderful students!

    - Education & Experience: Being a great musician doesn't necessarily make you a great teacher. Although I could play piano well when I entered college, I had a lot to learn about teaching others. Through completing my education and gaining hands on experience, I feel much more confident in my teaching abilities today.

    - Consider Virtual: When I first began teaching virtually (out of necessity during the 2020 pandemic), I was skeptical of the progress my students would be able to make. I was pleasantly surprised by just how similar a virtual lesson is to an in-person lesson. Virtual gives more flexibility, less time commitment (no drive time), plus allows you to choose from a wide range of teachers (not just the ones close to where you live).

    - Building Rapport: Sometimes it takes a few lessons to build rapport with an instructor. Give yourself at least a month of lessons to determine if that instructor and the instrument is the right fit for you!

    I typically ask my students:

✔ What they want to be able to accomplish through lessons

✔ Their preferred styles of music

✔ Do they already have an instrument at home? If not, we encourage students to purchase within 1 month of beginning lessons

✔ Their musical background and experiences (if applicable)
