Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We start with a private introductory lesson and full tour of our world-class facilities. This allows the prospective student to meet us in a one-on-one atmosphere where we can fully appreciate and answer any questions about our services they may have. It also gives prospective students a look at exactly the type of training that they will receive.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm an Internationally-Certified Master Instructor with the Atlantic-Pacific Tang Soo Do Federation, which is an international traditional Martial Arts organization that certifies qualified profesional Martial Artists all over the world. I've been studying the Martial Arts for nearly 25 years, and I've never stopped being a student, because I still train and learn regularly from my own teachers in the art.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
We do have standard pricing for our programs. When students come for their introduction and tour we get to know them, find out about their goals, and use that information to help them decide the best course of action in our program selection. We offer everything from single private lessons in traditional Martial Arts to one-on-one and group self-defense training. We also offer leadership training through seminars and special classroom-based programs, as well as private life-coaching. Our services range in price from $149-$299 per month for membership packages, and we also offer private seminars, small-group training, and corporate and personal events such as self-defense seminars & birthday parties. We also offer instructor certification courses and training for people who are interested in establishing a career in Martial Arts or Leadership training.
What types of students have you worked with?
We have worked with students ranging from 3 years old to 75 years old in both traditonal Martial Arts as well as leadership training and life coaching. We work with all age groups and genders, and individuals from all walks of life.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
We believe that there are 3 things to look for when searching for a Martial Arts instructor/school, a life coach, or a leadership coach:
1) Does this person/organization have a personality/methodology under which I can learn?
2) Does this person/organization value the teaching process (i.e. what internal/external certifications does this person have)?
3) Can this person/organization help me grow?
Not every person "clicks" with every other person or organization, and that's ok! We believe that anything that's worthwhile TAKES a while, and sometimes that means finding the right "fit" between you and an instructor or coach takes a while. If the three points above are met, you should consider moving forward.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Whether it's leadership training, life-coaching, or Martial Arts education, these questions are important:
1) What are my goals? Am I looking for this service because there's something missing in my life? Because I see an avenue for growth? Or is it just an opportunity to try something new?
2) Is there anything holding me back physically, mentally, or emotionally? If I'm just "interested" I'll only do that which is convenient, but if I'm COMMITTED I'll do whatever it takes, so...am I committed to the above goals?
When you know what you want, why you want it, and that you're committed to getting it you are 3-steps ahead!
