What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Assessing what they can and can't do based on what they want to work on.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been teaching in the Houston area for 14 years.
I teach marching percussion as well as individuals and concert percussion ensembles
I teach drumset in almost all styles as I am also a freelance professional specializing in drumset and percussion
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $40.00 per hour and $20.00per half hour.
I charge electronically and am flexible as I can in regards to scheduling, rescheduling and billing
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching in the Houston area in 2006 when I moved here having spent the prior two years on the road playing jobs.
When I moved to Houston I started teaching marching percussion and teaching private lessons.
What types of students have you worked with?
I mainly work within the public school system so I teach junior high and high school students in both ensemble and one on one instruction.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am currently playing a contract in Galveston in musical theatre. The show is fantastic and the orchestra is top notch. I am thrilled to be playing this as I always am.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I always tell my students that I am their strongest critic and their STAUNCHEST advocate. I think a student should look for an instructor who can communicate with them and inspire them in a way that they WANT to play their instrument. An instructor who will be honest yet supportive.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I think students should be comfortable in asking for help or advice when questioning their instructor. Try to be specific in terms of exactly what is giving you trouble in terms of your playing.
