My musical journey started when I was 8 years old, taking private classical percussion lessons from graduate students at Indiana University until High School, when I started taking lessons with the university faculty. I have a bachelor's degree from Indiana University in Music Performance (percussion), Audio Technology and Ethnomusicology. In college, I was a student of Kenny Aronoff, the drummer with John Mellencamp and later an in-demand studio drummer. Through Kenny Aronoff, I learned the Alan Dawson Technique on drum set. Alan Dawson was a famous jazz drummer/instructor who taught at Berklee College of Music. My experience includes -

Matt B. says, "Mat is a kind, intuitive and amazingly strategic piano teacher. With just a few lessons, my son, Jonah (9yr), learned the entire scale of fifths. And just a handful of lessons later he can now play a few full songs as well as READ music! I attribute Jonah’s sincere love of piano to Mat’s innovative and accepting teaching style and his capacity to make piano lessons something that Jonah looks forward to every single week (aka making piano lessons fun! Pretty rare, from what I hear!). " Read more

  • Will I get homework like drum patterns to remember?
  • Can you teach me in a way that helps me learn best?
  • How long is a lesson?
  • What should I bring to our lessons?
  • How many types of drum music can you teach me?
  • Can I get a copy of our lesson plan, rules, and how much I have to pay?

I came into Danny's lessons as an experienced player, and I think he does a great job of identifying areas of improvement and exposing me to new ways of thinking about music, not just guitar. Danny has a welcoming personality and I look forward to chatting and getting guidance every week. I would recommend Danny to anyone who is looking to improve their ear, their technique and groove.
