About

My musical journey started when I was 8 years old, taking private classical percussion lessons from graduate students at Indiana University until High School, when I started taking lessons with the university faculty. I have a bachelor's degree from Indiana University in Music Performance (percussion), Audio Technology and Ethnomusicology.

In college, I was a student of Kenny Aronoff, the drummer with John Mellencamp and later an in-demand studio drummer. Through Kenny Aronoff, I learned the Alan Dawson Technique on drum set. Alan Dawson was a famous jazz drummer/instructor who taught at Berklee College of Music.

My experience includes

- Tutoring many students at middle schools and high schools, in the Austin and Round Rock, TX school districts,

- Taught drums for 10 years at Tommy's Drum Shop, in Austin, to students from 3rd grade to adult.

- Judged UIL All-State Band auditions (TX).

My approach to teaching is that I am patient and teach to the student's goals. I do not teach specific styles of music. Instead, I teach a student how to play the instrument, touching on different styles along the way, making the student a more well-rounded and confident player, while having fun. And isn't that what playing music is about?

I currently teach at my home studio, in Kyle, for anyone looking to take drum lessons in the Austin, Buda, Kyle, and San Marcos, TX areas. For those too far to come to me, I also teach online.

Experience teaching students 7-70+ years of age.
