Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First we go over what days and times will work. Then we have an introductory lesson to find out any goals they might have for their lessons. I have students sing part of a song that they might know and a few vocal warm ups. This way I know what level they may be at.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelor's in music performance, placed in numerous vocal competitions including NATS. I have many years of experience in teaching voice and piano, auditioning, singing for church, and playing lead and character roles in theater.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Piano and voice have different pricing systems. However, I typically do 30 minute lessons.
How did you get started teaching?
I get excited sharing my passion with others and seeing them excel at something that was difficult for them at the beginning.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a wide range of students, but I have a lot of experience with beginners. My youngest student was 7 years old and my eldest was in his 40's. I really excel working with children, young women and adult women. Although, I have worked with men as well.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently, I was able to perform a lead role in 9 to 5 the musical.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher that can really listen to you. This type of teacher will help you reach your goals in singing or piano.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Are you seriously going to be dedicated to practicing and taking the teachers advice? Many people think singing is like what we see in the movies or on TV. But in actuality, those singers were practicing a lot beforehand! I would make sure you have the time to dedicate for the lessons at least once a week and time to practice throughout the week.
