Not company owned or operated, I stand to provide music education at exactly what that means - teaching music. Not just notes or rhythm, but the true meaning behind music. Although I have trained classically for over 16 years and am well versed in reading music and the like, i’ve learned to put far more emphasis on not only reading music, but playing as it was intended. This is a knowledge I intend to pass down to my students.

Gfire's Piano Lessons

Gfire Mayo · Austin, TX

What or who inspired you to start teaching?

To be honest, I am a singer/songwriter and I wanted a day job that would still be in my field of music.

What do you love most about your job?

I love seeing and hearing students make progress and learn to sing, play piano, play guitar, and write songs.

What types of students have you worked with?

My youngest piano student is 3, and the oldest I have worked with so far is 87. I teach all levels - beginning, intermediate, and advanced - on singing, piano, and songwriting, and I teach folk guitar as well. Some of my students are professionals who tour, some are aspiring professionals, some are in choirs or do open mics or act in amateur or semi-pro productions, and a lot of students just want to have fun and learn to sing and play and write for their own enjoyment.

Tell us about your passion for teaching

I enjoy being the "cool" singing and piano teacher - I know what is necessary for good playing and singing and writing, since I have loads of real-world experience, and I only teach the techniques that are the best and most productive.

What advice would you give aspiring students?

Make a list of your goals. Be willing to practice a minimum of 3 times in between lessons. Be patient and don't expect instant results but rather a long term progress. It generally takes a minimum of 2 years of study to achieve mastery on any instrument (including the voice) or in songwriting.
