About
I am a professional singer/songwriter and music teacher in Austin, Texas, "the live music capital of the world!" I have sung and played piano since age 3, and I got my Bachelor's Degree in Music from the University of Maryland, College Park. I love using all of my 27 years of experience teaching music to help my students learn to play piano and sing. I teach mastery of the piano at all levels, from beginning to advanced. Beginners can experience a lot of confidence by learning to master easy songs, and intermediate and advanced players can "put the icing on the cake" - learning how to build musical nuances and how to choose repertoire that suits her/his musical style(s). All students are welcome to participate in my two yearly student concerts - one in the spring and one in the fall at my music studio, and one at holiday time at a local nursing home. I am a member of ASCAP, with seven ASCAPlus awards for songwriting. I am also a voting member of The Recording Academy (the Grammys), and I have toured extensively across the United States, Canada, and Europe.
It is really rewarding to see my students of all ages develop their skills musically and creatively. Plus they get real world advice about performing, so they can really be proud of themselves for practicing regularly and doing a great job at our student concerts!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First I have the student fill out a questionnaire so that I know her/his goals and level of expertise. We then work together to figure out the best way to accomplish those goals!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree in classical singing with piano as my minor. I have studied both The Science of Singing (in England) and Speech Level Singing (in Los Angeles) and have a certification in Kundalini Yoga Level I. Thus, I have created my own "vocal tune-up" that I call "Yoga for the Voice."
As far as my piano, guitar, and songwriting go, I am a professional singer/songwriter and I use my pro tips to help my students gain the level of proficiency they want.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $80/hour, $60/45 minutes, $40/half-hour.
How did you get started teaching?
Honestly as a singer/songwriter I needed a day job!! So 22 years of teaching later, I am still teaching and performing. :)
What types of students have you worked with?
The youngest piano student started at 3 years old. My oldest singer is in her 70's. I have literally worked with all ages and all levels.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I just put on my fall student recital. Ten of my students sang and played piano, including one original song.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Read the teacher's profile. Is this someone you would enjoy studying music with?
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Absolutely anything and everything. When it comes to music studies, there is no such thing as a "stupid question."
