My teaching approach: Lessons are customized for each student. Beginners learn basic songs with easy chords to build coordination and timing, then students recommend songs THEY want to learn. Advanced songs, ear training, and music theory then go with the teaching of the songs they enjoy. Whether it is guitar, piano, bass, or banjo, we will have fun and you will learn to play. My influences are: Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Carlos Santana, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Joe Walsh, and MANY more. My lessons take place in: The teacher's studio All lessons with me take place in the following areas:

Lakewood Piano Lab

Wade Cottingham · Dallas, TX

Hello. I’m Wade Cottingham here in Dallas, Texas.

I own and operate a music teaching studio called Lakewood Piano Lab.

The name “Lakewood Piano Lab” indicates I am a local presence in a thriving neighborhood (Lakewood) and also suggests that an inquisitive research mentality can be applied to music learning to keep it fresh.

I teach about 55 to 60 students each week in my studio, private lessons, mostly piano, but also cello and drums and arranging. I teach mostly kids but also a large handful of adults. I teach all styles. With beginners I am using the latest and best learning materials: Piano Pronto and Piano Maestro. With adults, we learn whatever the student wants to focus on.

I love teaching, it is never boring or isolated or full of corporate drama like my previous career (programming accounting software) !! Music means so much to people, and I get to directly help someone find out how to make music and do it well, and have fun. I have always like learning and organizing thoughts and skills.

I always had a few students here and there even before I switched full time from programming to piano teaching. For many years I played professional piano as a part time job. When it was time to switch to full time teaching, several people helped me make the switch by encouraging me: my dad (a businessman), my fiancee (now my wife) and my pastor.

That was 2002, and ever since then, I seriously, consistently LOVE my job!
