About

Want a technique that's strong enough to get you through all kind of repertoire, from contemporary belting to operatic arias? It may sound impossible, but the voice is like any other muscle, and benefits from cross training.

My teaching philosophy is influenced by my performing career, which has spanned between working for both professional opera companies and Equity musical theatre companies, singing as a guest soloist with orchestras, and singing gigs that run the gamut between pop, folk, jazz, and other contemporary genres of music. I know that the flexibility to sing many styles depends upon a strong technique, and an keen understanding of stylistic differences between genres.

As a voice teacher, I have been teaching at the University level for eight years. I've worked with my singers on classical voice technique, operatic repertoire, musical theatre technique, belt coaching, commercial music like pop and R&B, and audition preparation. As both a teacher well versed in vocal health and pedagogy, and also an active singer and performer, I'm certain I'll be able to help you work toward achieving your goals as a vocalist.

    Frequently asked questions

Singing is such a personal experience, and in order to establish a good working relationship between teacher and student, trust is paramount. Our first lesson usually consists of getting to know one another, asking about past experience and goals as a singer, and getting to know your range. Based on these things, I'll suggest a course of action over the next few lessons, but nothing is set in stone- flexibility in teaching is equally as important as flexibility in singing!

I have been working in higher education since 2012, and have taught students specializing in classical voice, musical theatre, and commercial music. I have also taught a wide variety of ages, from early middle school students to adults in their seventies. I also am actively performing and working as a singer myself, which gives me a more complete understanding of how to advise my students about the current state of the industry.

I come from a musical family. My mother is a choir director and often had me act as a clinician for her students. I ran my own children's theatre company for a summer and acted as director, vocal coach and producer, and I began teaching private voice lessons while in my undergrad. I've been teaching voice ever since.

Make sure you have a teacher who both understands the mechanics of the voice and the anatomy, but also can speak to you as a singer themselves. The balance is delicate, but one can't operate freely without the other.
