About
First one-hour session is a free test drive. Each lesson thereafter is $30 per hour. During the test drive determine if I have the skill sets, personality, methods of teaching, professional musical background and education that you believe will enable you or your child to develop the skills to play the drums. Most importantly tell me what your goals are.
Here are reasons you should call me on 817 937 5518 to schedule the test drive. I have genuinely enjoyed training children (10 yrs.+) and adults, beginners with little or no musical background. Experienced students can direct me to focus training on their specific desires, such as learning to play various rhythms to different time signatures, or help them enhance their drum-fills ability, or orchestrate solo's. Find a teacher that can demonstrate their talent and knowledge, and more importantly explain techniques and the fundamentals of music so the student can understand and apply them. I have over 30 years’ experience ( 25 professional ) and have provided personal one on one training designed for each individual's skill level for over eighteen years. Learn to play the right and "easy way". All instruments require the development of various forms of skill sets. Obviously, the ability to play drums requires independent hand and leg coordination. You need a teacher that can explain and show you how to develop these skills. For a drummer, nothing is more important than being able to keep time and lay down a tight groove. Additionally, training the correct muscles while learning basic drum rudiments is what develops the students stick speed. I will teach either the traditional or matched set hand methods based on the student’s preferences.
A student’s class time and practice time should be rewarding, by making sure occasional frustration is more than compensated for by the progress they realize they are making. That would mean that I should be adept at using bushes as well as sticks. However, what, and how I teach can be applied to all genres of music. The style of music we concentrate on could be Country, Rock, Pop, Latin, Funk, Blues, Smooth and Traditional Jazz, etc. The student's preference of training is always a priority. During the test drive you will not even be asked if you have interest in taking additional lessons. In fact, I recommend that you think about what I have to offer overnight, and what approaches I recommended might be best suited to accomplish your goals. If you do not call me back, I understand that you are considering other options. I will not call you or try to initiate any additional contact with you unless you make another effort to contact me. Would you buy a car before taking a free test drive? Not much to lose, right?
Two lesson process options are available:
1st option:
In person lessons at my home in Keller. Requirements are that you either show me proof that you have completed your covid-19 vaccinations more than two weeks ago or wear a mask when you are in my home.
2nd option:
The process today has been revised to provide for social distancing by using the ZOOM app., with payments accepted only via PayPal. A number of my students prefer this method even though they have had their shots. It conveniently saves time and eliminates transportation costs.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Determine:
· students goals
· previous music leaning experiences if any
· their favorite genre
· scheduling availability
Explain learning options:
· reading music notes
· learning by ear
· leaning by other black and white options I have developed
Explain how drummers use their smallest muscles to develop speed, and timing precision
Explain my approach to making and keeping the learning process fun!!!!!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Besides taking years of private drum lessons, my high school years were filled with numerous music classes, and performance in marching band, orchestra, and swing band. I also performed professionally in the Chicagoland area during my younger years The last 20 years I have performed locally with a rock band but mostly jazz quartets and trios.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
First 1 hour lesson is free. Thereafter $30 per hour
How did you get started teaching?
I felt like sharing my skill set with others would be rewarding to them as well as myself. When a student grasps something I am teaching them they may see me pat myself on the shoulder. Major goal is for my student and I to have fun.
What types of students have you worked with?
Male or female. I prefer working with ages 10 and above
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
1990's Bull's 6 championships. Blackhawks 3 championships in 2010, 2013, 1nd 2015,..... and of course the 1985 Bears Superbowl championship. These are recent in my mind,...............and only my mind.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Shop around. I imagine pricing might be an issue, but instructors skills, personalty, and manner of conveying their instructions, including examples should be major priorities. What kind of drum set will I need? Do I need to purchase a drum set immediately? Are there pro's and cons to purchasing a drum set soon? Can an instructor provide advice related to the purchase of a drum set? Ask them if they will give you a free hour of their time to provide you with answers to all of your questions. Would you buy a car without a test drive? I provide a free test drive.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What do you want to accomplish? What are your goals? Why drumming?
