About Kim's Tang Soo Do School
Kim's Tang Soo Do is a family-oriented martial arts school focused on cultivating discipline, instilling confidence and teaching respect. We are a light to no contact martial arts program. No contact allows for learning and experimentation of various techniques during fighting. Light contact teaches to protect oneself and the distance required to make contact with an opponent. We will not however hit each other with intention to harm. When you join our program you will become a part of our family and we always protect our family. Each student will be encouraged to live by our five tenants which are:
· Courtesy: treating others with dignity and respect.
· Integrity: Strong adherence to a code of right and wrong.
· Perseverance: To never give up.
· Self-Control: Discipline over ones actions and emotions.
· Indomitable Spirit: An inner self incapable of being overcome.
About Master Garwood
Master Garwood is a 6th Degree Black Belt in Tang Soo Do and a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. He has taught thousands of students martial arts over a 25 year period and is currently celebrating his 15th year in Watauga Texas. He has been featured in the Star Telegram and other publications.
My son loves going to karate he really enjoys Master Garwood
This is by far the best martial arts studio in the DFW. They focus on teaching a fundamental style of Tang Soo Do that is historically accurate and well structured. It is a safe environment where students are taught technique and control, rather than how to beat someone up like other schools. Additionally, Sa Bom Nim, teaches his students respect, self control, good manners, how to focus on the task at hand, and to complete whatever task they have committed to. I would never have left if it weren't for having to move halfway way across the state.
Master Garwood is top notch! From his expertise to his ability to help more challenged students to his commands of the class - he took a couch potato that was overweight and not that interested and turned her into a Tang Soo Do-loving black belt mama! Highly recommend for all ages!!
This is a great environment with my values that can be instilled in members/families of all ages.
When you first enroll into our program we will work privately with you for the first couple weeks. After that you will join with other students in a class enviroment.

I would say that the most important thing about hiring a Martial Arts instructor is to feel comfortable with the person who will be teaching you or your children. Especlially in the case children a Martial arts Instructor can have a profound influence on a child so ask yourself this question: IF my child starts to mimic this person is that a good thing or a bad thing.
I think it is important to view the school you will be looking to enroll into. Many schools out there only care about the money you will pay them and once you are enrolled they will no longer care about you or your needs. Therefore take a trial class or view thier classes and see how skilled the students are. Talk to the instructor and get a feel for him as a person you may begin to look up to. Its important that you fell a sense of family.
