Annie P. says, "Uriel is a great coach and he is extremely patient with you. After taking Muay Thai/Boxing lessons with him, my confidence has grown exponentially and I KNOW self-defense now. Being a small and petite person, I was nervous at first, but Uriel helped me overcome my shyness and made the experience extremely enjoyable. He isn't your average trainer and will break down the movements for you and has high expectations. I've also taken part of his weight training regimen, which has helped me achieve my goal of gaining more muscle mass. Whether it's for self-defense, losing weight, gaining muscle, regular cardio fitness, Uriel has the program for you! One of the best trainers I've come across in Houston and the surrounding area. I started boxing when I was 10 yrs old. At 16 I made one of the US Olympic Teams. I was also one of the first to win Golden Glove Nationals at 16. As an amateur my record was 128 wins and 10 loses. As a professional my record was 69 wins 42 by knockout, 5 loses, and 2 draws. I fought for the world championship in 1980. I’ve trained amateurs, professions, and coached an Olympic team. I would love to speak by phone to any potential customers. Thank you!

I am currently an instructor at USA Karate in pearland. I have been teaching karate for 7 years and I have been training for 12. The style that I teach is a combination of differnt styles that my instructor learned and then taught me. I have taught students from age 5 to 50 so I am well aclamated to teach all ages, and I work really well with kids. I enjoy the workout I get when train martial arts and how it gives me self confidense, plus its really cool. I Figure if its something that I love then why not share my enjoyment for the art....

James F. says, "I haven't had the chance to be trained by Parker in the past year because of Covid-19, but I truly enjoyed learning from him previously. He won't hesitate to push you harder than you think you can go, but, while having a gruff exterior, he is a keen observer of people and has the best interests of his students and clients at heart. He's also very strong at fixing and tweaking technique to make it the best possible form it can be. He great at catching small details in form, and is willing to make you do it over and over to fix and perfect it. He understands that not all training can be the "fun" stuff, like sparring and stress drills. To get to those, you need the basics done right and Parker will make sure that happens. " Read more

Your kickboxing questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.

How much do kickboxing classes cost?

Kickboxing classes cost $120 to $170 per month on average. Prices depend on the number of classes per week included in the membership plan and the gym or studio location. Membership plans that include unlimited classes per month typically fall at the higher end of the range.

Most gyms also offer drop-in classes for $30 to $35 each. On-demand kickboxing classes offered online cost $20 to $40 per month.

What is kickboxing?

Kickboxing is a full-contact combat sport that relies on striking movements, including punches, kicks, and knees. Competitive fights typically take place in a boxing ring, with fighters wearing boxing gloves, shorts, and mouth guards. Muay Thai, karate, and most other martial arts incorporate aspects of kickboxing.

In recent years, kickboxing has been adapted into a high-intensity calorie-burning fitness workout.

What is the difference between kickboxing and boxing?

Traditional boxing only allows punches, while kickboxing allows punches, kicks, and knees.

Is kickboxing a good workout?

Kickboxing is an excellent high-intensity workout that combines cardio and strength training to provide a variety of health and fitness benefits:

  • Build your strength and tone your muscles
  • Burn fat and lose weight
  • Improve your cardio health
  • Increase your endurance
  • Boost your energy
  • Improve your balance and coordination

A kickboxing fitness class can burn 350 to 450+ calories per hour, depending on the intensity level and class length.

Is kickboxing good for self-defense?

Kickboxing can be effective for self-defense if learned from a martial arts studio. The sport incorporates strikes like punching and kicking while also teaching you to evade or defend against attacks. However, kickboxing doesn't incorporate grappling moves like those found in Jiu-Jitsu or Aikido that help you to escape an attacker holding you on the ground.

Cardio kickboxing fitness classes don't provide self-defense skills but will improve your strength, coordination, and endurance.

How long do kickboxing classes last?

Kickboxing fitness and martial arts classes typically last 45 to 60 minutes.

Where to find kickboxing classes near me?

Follow these tips to find the best kickboxing studio near you:

  • Compare membership packages from multiple studios.
  • Read studio and instructor reviews on Lessons and Google.
  • Confirm the studio offers classes for your experience level.
  • Visit the studio to confirm it's clean and well-maintained and the staff is professional.
  • Take advantage of their free or discounted trial class to ensure the studio is a good fit for you.
  • Get a copy of the membership contract in writing before making any payments.

What questions should I ask kickboxing studios?

Ask these questions to ensure you find the best kickboxing studio for you:

  • What membership plans do you offer, and how much do they cost?
  • Do you offer a free or discounted trial class?
  • What is your class schedule?
  • Are your classes beginner-friendly?
  • Are your classes more fitness-oriented or martial arts-oriented?
  • How many people are in a typical class?
  • How long does each class last?
  • What should I wear to class?
  • Do I need to be in good shape before I take a class?

Reviews for Pearland kickboxing classes

Recent success stories from people in the Pearland area.

Uriel is one of the hardest working and knowledgeable coaches I know. On top of being an active fighter that can help you master any standing technique (boxing, kickboxing, and my favorite, Muay Thai) he has, and could do, any workout he puts you through. Uriel is a great motivator, and always brings the jokes along with the motivation. A great dude and a great teacher, check him out, for sure.
