About

I started signature singing back in 2015 with the idea of helping people learn proper vocal technique. From age 6-60, beginner to advanced, it is my passion to share with you all of the experience and training I have acquired during my 20 +years of singing and teaching.

As a teacher it is my job to ensure that each of my students recognizes that they are not only singers but artists as well, capable of conveying great beauty and passion through performance. As an instructor it is my passio to share with them all of the knowledge I have gained through study, teaching, and performance these past 20 years of my professional career.

When I came to Timothy, the only singing experience I had was singing along with the radio. With only 4 weeks to prepare for a solo, a cappella in our church, Timothy was able teach me the techniques necessary for a good presentation that concluded with many compliments. I have enjoyed the progress made and my hope is to continue instructions from Timothy. He has made singing a real joy.
    I am forever grateful, sincerely,
    Deacon Mark Luther

Working with Tim has been outstanding. His lessons are rigorous (as they should be) and he challenges you to reach your goal of becoming a better singer. When I began lessons with Tim several months ago, I was unaware of the techniques needed to excel (the breath, using my head voice, etc). In my short time studying with him, I have learned an extensive amount of knowledge. I started with little and have felt a difference in the power of my voice and my ability to carry a tune!

Timothy Birt is a terrific teacher of voice. I came to him for help with speech production, because three other speech therapists had not been able to address the tonal quality. Tim convinced me to try singing and that it would help my speech. I love opera and have always wanted to sing, but I had never sung in front of anyone. He made me comfortable by exuding the confidence of being able to help me and knowing that I would improve. He is very patient, steady, knowledgeable, personable, and talented. He has a great voice and ear to match. My speech has improved a lot (many types of confirmation of this in my life), and I am making great progress in my singing tone. I highly recommend Tim for your vocal teacher.

I loved how after every lesson I felt my voice was improved that much more. The only reason I am unable to continue lessons right now is because of distance, but as soon as I move back to San Antonio I will call Tim as soon as possible.

    Frequently asked questions

The first step should be getting to meet your new teacher. I think the best way to do that is in a free introductory lesson. That way both student and teacher get a chance to talk and work together for the first time to see if they are a good fit. Thats why at Signature Singing your first lesson is absolutely free. You can book directly from my website under 1st lesson. If you are satisfied with the lesson and wish to move forward, then we would schedule recurring lessons that fit with your schedule.

I have a bachelor's in vocal performance from Texas state university. I both have taught and sang professionally for more than 20 years. I am a private instructor and vocal coach. I have also been an adjuct professor for San antonio college for 10 years.

I started teaching right out of college for a music store in town. Later I worked for different music academys before finally opening my own business.
I have worked with those who are experienced and inexperienced. With professionals and beginners. I have also had occasion to work with those who have special needs.
Ask that teacher if they offer an introductory lesson where you can see how they teach. That way you can make sure they are the teacher for you. This is a good way to see if teacher and student are a good fit before making any financial commitment. I offer a free introductory lesson to all prospective students.
