Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When a student comes in for a private lesson, Aimee will ask them a few questions about their goals and needs for their voice. She will then listen to them sing a song of their choosing. She will help the student with any trouble spots and help them learn to use the tools that will help improve their sound.
All lessons are taught over zoom so as long as your device allows it, you may record lessons for practicing.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Aimee has been teaching voice since 2003. She began when she was a performing arts scholarhip student in the Musical Theater program at Weber State University.
She has been a performer since age 10 and has performed in many musicals and singing competitions. She loves musical theater and has directed, choreographed and vocal coached musical theater performers over the last two decades in private lessons and in productions.
In 2011 Aimee joined the International Voice Teachers of Mix and in 2012 she was invited to sit on the board of Directors for the organization. She currently serves on the board coordinating the weekly teaching tips for the education of all teachers involved who would like to improve their teaching abilities.

How did you get started teaching?
I had a voice teacher in High School who believed in me and encouraged me to start teaching. I thought I knew a lot then, but I have learned so much since! I've always been passionate about vocal technique since I discovered the secrets to solving the problems in my own voice. I felt it was magic that needed to be shared so I got into teaching and have loved it ever since!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all ages of students from 5 years old up to 55+. My favorite group, however is teens and adults, age 12-45.
I love helping teens who are preparing for auditions and helping them all the way through the process from choosing the perfect song, to making it sound amazing.
I also love working with adults who are finally taking the time to develop their own talents. I have had many moms get to the point where they finally have "me" time and want me to help them develop the voice they have let lie dormant for the last 15 or so years. It is such a pleasure to help them rediscover their talents and find their voices!
I have also helped students who have just finished vocal therapy with their Speech Language Pathologist for vocal problems, usually muscle tension dysphonia. It is a joy to help students regain their voice and develop good habits that give them the freedom to sing again.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I was thrilled by the movie "Dear Evan Hansen." The emotion connection to the music was so moving and the message was incredible. I was floored by Ben Platt's voice and his flawless execution of the music and story.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone who has experience and knows what it takes to get you where you need to be. Hiring the cheapest option is not always the best option. 20 years ago I charged a lot less for my services because I had no experience. If you go with the least expensive teacher, you will get a less experienced one. That is fine, if you are ok with that. If you want to get on your way more quickly and make progress toward your goal, you'll get farther in fewer lessons with a more experienced teacher and ultimately end up paying less.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
It is always good to know what your goals are. Do you want to sing for a career or just for fun? Do you want to sing in choir? Musicals? A Band? What kind of music do you like and what do you want help with in your voice?
If you know the answers to these kinds of questions, you can get better results because you can find a teacher that can fit your specific needs.
