Frequently asked questions

During our first voice lesson I will want to get to know you and what your goals are, what kind of music you are interested in singing, if you have any prior musical experience, etc. Then I will have you sing me any song that you know and feel comfortable singing! By the end of our first lesson I will most likely recommend some music that we can learn in the future, and outline which aspects of vocal technique I would like to begin addressing in our lessons.

We always begin lessons with some quick physical stretches and vocal warmups, and then we will work on whichever song we are learning. I like to find music that is both suitable for your range and skill level, but is also music that you love! Throughout each lesson we will work on vocal technique concurrent with your individual vocal needs and goals. I offer at least two opportunities to perform in recitals throughout the year, so we will also work on performance techniques in our lessons if that is something the student has interest in. There is no requirement to perform in recitals, they are for whoever desires to participate! Lessons will look different depending on student age, skill level, and musical genre, so feel free to reach out and ask me any questions you might have about lessons!

I have almost a decade of teaching experience, as well as a BFA in Vocal Performance from Carnegie Mellon University and a MM in Vocal Performance from the University of Utah.

I started teaching when I moved to Utah and was doing my masters degree at the University of Utah. I had just a few students to earn some extra money, but then I realized I really love teaching! I have been building my voice studio ever since.

I have worked with students ages 7-70! All skill levels. Classical/Opera, Musical Theater, Pop, Jazz, Folk, and Singer/Songwriter genres.

Make sure you are hiring a teacher who has experience and education teaching singing. Someone can be a wonderful singer, but not know how to teach what they do.
