Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I offer a free consult to make sure everyone feels comfortable moving forward. I show how the typical lesson would be a we decide if we will continue.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in Vocal Music from the U of U and I am certified in Mix and am working with EVI increasing my knowledge in extreme vocals. I am also a member of IVTOM and NAATS. These are organizations for teachers of singing. Being a member of these organizations help me to stay up to date on the most current vocal techniques, music, and vocal opportunities for my students. I have performed extensively singing in a pop/rock band, comunity and professional theater and jazz/classical venues.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My prices reflect my education and experience.
How did you get started teaching?
At a very young age I was encouraged to develope my talents and began singing for the community at the age of 3. After a long stint of performing, I began to have a very strong desire to understad the voice. This has ultimatley become my life's mission.
What types of students have you worked with?
I will take students as young as 6yrs old and as old as the voice is still viable. Most of my students are releasing music or performing professionally, but it wasn't always that way. If we start with a little natural talent you can become a perorming artist. It's in your hands.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Every time I see a student rise to the occasion and become what they are meant to be, it is the greatest event I witness.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Don't get pigeon holed. Keep your options open. Work with someone who can and will teach you all styles. Work with someone who will allow you to follow your dreams...not theirs. Sing in all styles, be prepared. You never know the road your career will take.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Work with a teacher with knowlege and experience. Be sure they have degrees and certifications proving to you they have done their homework. A singer with no education can't always give you exersises and techniques you may need to move forward. A vocal coach with no singing experience may not be as empathetic or restpectful to you as a singer. They can sometimes force feed you their technical research without understanding the ramifications, without any regard for your natural instrument. Be careful and cautious when selecting your vocal coach.
