Pinnacle Point ATA Martial Arts
About
We provide martial arts training for kids whose parents want them to build confidence, develop discipline, get fit, become safe, and are looking for an activity that will actually do that while having fun in a safe environment. Most parents choosing an activity aren’t aware most kids activities can damage kids self-esteem, are taught by part time people or parent volunteers, and do not really teach anything beyond the physical activity. We always offer a full time professional staff and our curriculum is based on making the individual succeed all while learning skills like respect, discipline, and communication. To help you make the best decision possible, go to our website and register for our special offer so you can see for yourself why so many parents agree this is the best thing they have ever done for their kids! Adults and teens training in our program can expect to gain more respect for themselves, become physically stronger, and mentally tough.
I am humbled by parents entrusting me to assist in developing Life Skills in their children that will enrich the rest of their lives. I enjoy watching students, kids and adults alike, accomplish something they never thought possible. It's rewarding to see them take their new earned confidence and apply it to other areas in their lives. I love the positive environment that exists in my studio. All of our parents root for and cheer on all of the kids, not just their own. Our parents enjoy seeing everyone succeed and it creates a unique environment of support while still being a sport.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We invite new students to come in for an introductory lesson. These are typically private lessons and are by appointment only. This allows us to get to know the student and their family, learn what their needs are, take them through our program, and introduce the student to a few basic techniques, and the other practices at our studio.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a 4th Degree Black Belt in the ATA (American Taekwondo Association) and the chief instructor at Pinnacle Point Martial Arts. I have been studying martial arts since October 1997, I am a five time Utah State Champ, and was named Region 119D Black Belt of the Year. In addition to being a nationally certified instructor of Songahm Taekwondo, I have additional specialty certifications and training in Bully Prevention, Child Safety and Abduction Prevention, nationally-accredited Sexual Harassment and Rape Prevention (SHARP) and Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT), Warrior Krav Maga, and ATA’s Protech weapons. I have completed training and have experience teaching students with physical limitations, autism, down syndrome, extreme anxiety, ADD, ADHD, ODD, hearing and seeing impaired. I have had the pleasure of teaching a variety of students as young as 2 years old through retirement aged adults, current and former military, sworn law enforcement officers, professors, nurses, lawyers, doctors, pilots, and business professionals.
I am the 6th of 7 children in my family. I have had a hand in helping to raise my 31 nieces and nephews. Utilizing my life experience of growing up in a large family, I have cultivated a style of teaching which makes martial arts instruction dynamic and practical for learners of all ages and abilities.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Our pricing varies depending on how our clients prefer to be billed and how many family members train with us. We have students that pay monthly, and students who pay in advance for a discount.
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching by helping out my instructor during my own classes when I was a teenager. I quickly discovered I enjoy teaching, and it grew into a passion as I got more involved with the daily instruction. I love seeing students succeed!

Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I have recently had a student come back to train with me after years of inactivity. She's an adult now. She began training with me when she was about 9 and continued into her teen years. It's very gratifying to hear her tell her view of the impact I made on her life years later. It's always great to get confirmation that I positively make a difference in others lives.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Don't get hung up on which style of martial art you think you want to train; most people don't know the difference between all the styles. Find an instructor that works well with you, and your family. You'll get all of the promised benefits of martial arts training if you stick with it and have a great instructor regardless of style.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
For our child students, parents need to consider what results they seek, (discipline, confidence, etc), and what they're willing to commit to in order to get it. It takes time and consistency to get great results. Adults need to consider their physical and emotional needs, too. Learning better discipline isn't just for kids!
