About
My degree is in child development. I have over 30 years of experience teaching new beginners how to swim. I teach private lessons and taylor the lesson to the learner. I believe All people can learn to swim! I nearly drowned when I was young and I am sensitive to fearful students. I love sharing my love for the water with others
I love seeing the quick progress that private lessons provide! This method is the best option for new beginners. I can usually get a student to be comfortable going under the water and floating on the back in approximately 10 lessons. Two things that will effect how fast they learn is age ( I teach students 6 months to adult) and any fears they may have when they began.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I talk to them to get to know them. I want to work at the correct pace for their needs. I will explain what we are going to do, one thing at a time. I will let them know what I see them doing right.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree in child development. I have taught 1000's of kids to swim. I experienced a near drowning myself as I child so I understand students with anxiety.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I recommend a set of 10 private lessons for new beginners. The cost is $230 for the first set and $200 for the second set if needed. I work with all ages and can take a new beginner 3 year old who has never been under the water to a swimmer in approx 10-15 lessons. Older kids are usually easier. Kids under 3 usually take longer. Students who are not new beginners can take fewer lessons if they prefer.
How did you get started teaching?
I graduated from college and taught school for awhile. I had a child of my own and could not find a program that taught young children. I have developed the program I use over the past 35 years.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages and stages including babies and adults.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I taught a 65 year old man who had watched his grandson learn to swim with me. He didn't think he could conquer his fear, but it did! He is now able to join his family on a snorkeling outing.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Go watch them teach. Sign up for a one time class and see if it is a good fit. Fewer lessons one on one is often better than group lessons for new beginners.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are my goals. What is your teaching style.
