Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I am new to Virginia. I have coached for many years I am willing to travel to coach students. We can agree on a date and time and set up the workout.
All workouts begin with a short warm up including flexibility training and a small amount of conditioning. Then we go to one event and if time, a second event. Finally, we spend a few minutes conditioning to prepare the body for shape, strength and injury prevention.
Most of my athletes have been with me for over a year of private lessons.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was a gymnasts and have almost 40 years coaching and officiating experience including 4 years as the Assistant Coach at the University of Pennsylvania.
I possess a BS in Biology and a MS in Sports Management. I have been involved in sports organizations for many years including work on the Olympics, the Goodwill Games and many collegiate and national championships.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
If an athlete wants only one lesson I charge $100 per hour. I pay for the gym rental.
If we agree upon a long-term series the price lowers to $85 per hour.
I charge irs mileage for travel.

Everyone from toddlers to Olympians. I also have helped Hollywood stars learn to flip. I have coached recreational through elite athletes.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I have worked with children learning how to flip to high level competitive gymnasts trying to obtain a college scholarship and national team status.
Recently I worked with Gracie who is an amazing athlete. During our time together her skills and her confidence grew tremendously. I hope to judge her at the University of Kentucky some day!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Enjoy it! Its all about having fun and being safe. Coaches need to tailor workouts to the fitness and level of the athlete. Lessons need to support their level, their safety and help them progress.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are your goals and expectations? Have you done gymnastics before? How excited are you about participating?
