About
I believe the karate I teach enables people to discover and develop their maximum human potential.
I enjoy helping people realize their natural potential through karate. Karate training helps provide the confidence and strength needed to succeed in relationships, school, work and life. Seeing people change and grow through the rigor and depth of karate is what I enjoy most.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I meet with new students personally. I ask about them about their goals and aspirations. If there is interest and a potential fit, I take them through an introductory lesson and arrange a schedule of classes. I do not charge for my instruction. My goal is to find and help train students who are willing and interested in making a long-term commitment to karate training.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been teaching and training in classical martial arts for 40 years. I am one of two non-Japanese students authorized by my teacher to instruct in North America. I ran a successful commercial aikido dojo for over 15 years and served as the assistant chief instructor in two commercial dojos in the Seattle area. I co-founded and served as Treasurer of Aikido Schools of Ueshiba, the second-largest aikido organization in North America. I speak fluent Japanese and have translated several books core to Ushiro Karate including Karate and Ki and Ushiro Karate: Practical Philosophy of Bujutsu.
