How did you get started teaching?
I started training in martial arts in response to the need for self-defense training. As a young adult female having dealt with stranger danger frequently, it was my goal to learn to protect myself, and stop living in fear of potential personal assaults. Having earned my first black belt under Chuck Norris's United Fighting Arts Federation, I overcame my own fears, and became empowered to have the confidence to share the life lessons learned with others.
What types of students have you worked with?
At USA Karate Academy we work with children as young as 5 and as old as 99.
Our students are Beginners, Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced levels. Classes are devised to help each student learn at their own pace.
Younger students are developing concentration, coordination, self discipline, respect for themselves and others.
More experienced students are continuing their martial arts journey by deepening their understanding of the life-skills in martial arts, such as living a life of ethics, loyalty, and honor.
We have students who are setting their goals high in the sport kararate world in making every effort to develop their skills to compete in local, regional, national, and international events, including the Olympics.
There is a class that can meet the needs of many types of students. Since martial arts training can be a life-long art to be practiced, classes are available for Men, Women, Children, at the recreational as well as the elite levels.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
After 24 years of teaching martial arts in the Snohomish/King County area, there are many fond memories that I'm proud of.
On the sporting side, recently we took a small team to a friendship tournament in Washington State, and we had a 100% success rate.
In the life-style side of martial arts, one of our young students was being bullied at his school. This young students used his mental martial arts skills to stop the bullying without using physical force.
Once a month we offer Black Belt training, and we recently had 15 black belts show up and demonstrate multi-faceted approaches to defending against punches, kicks, strikes, grabs, grasps, and more. All the students demonstrated deep and broad knowledge in their understanding of tactical self-defense, and the art of karate-do.
