I enjoy a student's desire to learn, take initiative to practice and continue to be teachable. It's important for me to instill to the student that Tennis offers a lifetime of enjoyment and sense of community. It offers fun and meaningful relationships in life. There are many things that you can learn on the court, that translate into life
The best stuff is the smile and excitement of the student when they get it right. Tennis has been in my life ever since I learned in college. I worked (2-3) hours outside of practice to achieve my level. Tennis is a gateway to learning more about life and about building relationships, that last. What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Talk with them about what they like best about the game of tennis. Listen closely to what they would like to accomplish and what makes tennis most fun for them. I asked them what they would like to work on first and create small victories along the way and move onto the next fun piece. I commit to them as much as I can to having them understand the technique and how important it is to the overall success of their tennis experience.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I played college tennis at the community college level, help my team win a coach championship for the league, played tennis at the University of Puget sound which is a Division III level. My game actually became better after my college experience. Provided the luxury of tennis lessons and academy style learning for my son and was exposed to a lot of top level instruction.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My price point is a modest $60 an hour, I may reduce that just a little if there are multiple lessons per week, or if the student and parent agreed that after one or two lessons that they would like to buy several lessons at a time. It just varies on the quantity and commitment.
How did you get started teaching?
Lessons at the Tacoma Pierce County YMCA on Pearl Avenue to students as young as four years old to students as old is 84 years old. I became certified as a developmental instructor, my knowledge base is very deep. It's very extensive because of my love for the game.

Preteen to Senior Citizen
