About

Welcome! I'm so excited that you are interested in voice lessons and I would love to guide and support you on your singing journey! I am a Pacific Northwest-based (Lynnwood, WA, near Seattle) professional singer and I am currently accepting new students.

I have a bachelor's degree in classical voice performance and k-12 music education, a master's degree in classical voice performance (opera), and an artist diploma in early music (specializing in vocal baroque music from western music history). I have experience teaching classroom general music and choir (public and private schools) across 7 years, and have been teaching voice lessons intermittently (when I've had time!) since 2010. In addition to my professional classical and baroque voice performance expertise, I am a professional choral singer, I have performed multiple times with a vocal jazz trio in Chicago, performed musical theater pieces in benefit concerts, and am also the lead singer in a Celtic trio. Please check the calendar page on my website to see upcoming and recent performances to get a feel for my experience. I also have a media page where you can watch videos of me performing. (all of this is a part of www.natalieingrisano.com.)

I work with private voice students who schedule lessons regularly (weekly or biweekly ) as well as occasionally (for "tune-ups" or special projects). Options for study are vocal technique, musicianship skills (reading and performing written music), singing in multiple languages (English, Italian, German, French, and Spanish are my specialties for sung diction), preparing for auditions, preparing parts and roles for shows, and also to simply explore the voice, explore a love for singing, and a love for music!

I have been teaching private voice lessons to middle school, high school, and adult students for the last 13 years in Chicago and Seattle. My voice studio is located in Lynnwood, WA, I also teach lessons on the East side in Medina on Wednesdays and Sundays, and lessons are also available on Zoom.

Natalie was a great voice teacher for our daughter. She provided a solid educational foundation while instilling a love of music! She also served as my daughters youth choir director at church and was terrific in that role as well.

Well, of course, it helped that we are both sopranos! That said, she was good at paying attention to both my potential and my limits as a singer. She did an excellent job of teaching me to breathe properly which is far more necessary for a singer than I had ever imagined. So is posture. The more voice lessons I had with her, the more relaxed and confident I grew. And I had a lot of fun just being near her and listening to her sing something before I attempted to sing the same thing she had just sung. In her presence there was a beautiful balance between the hard work of singing and the joy and fun that singing brings to our souls and bodies.

Natalie was a fantastic teacher. She took the time to not only understand my musical goals, but also the context in which I perform, in order to design warmups and exercises specifically for my situation. She was an attentive listener, gave great explanations, and a wonderful instructor.

    Frequently asked questions

I always start the lessons I teach with stretches, vocal warm ups, and technique exercises. In a new student's very first lesson this is extra important because it will help me get an accurate view of your range and current comfort and abilities with singing. Secondly, we will talk! I need to know what your goals are for voice lessons so that I can curate an experience catered specifically to your needs and what you'd like to learn most.

It is very important to be fully warmed up vocally before working on songs for performance so that you never over-tire or injure your voice. I like to ensure that my students have a very solid repertoire of warm-ups to use at home, and so we practice them in our lessons for the first few minutes each time as well. I also believe that warm-ups serve as very helpful technical learning and growth that can be accomplished outside of rehearsing performance pieces.

The majority of the lesson after vocal warmups and exercises is spent on learning the pieces of music that fit your voice best, that you are most interested in, and that you might want to perform or audition with if you're moving in that direction.

Always ask questions about vocal health! It is wonderful to bring up the thing you'd like most out of lessons and see how a teacher might speak with you for how they would approach working on that with you.
