About

Nancy Klingman is an experienced and enthusiastic teacher with lifelong experience as a performer in Opera, Concert, and Recital. Her high school students go on to attend top Music programs in such schools as Eastman Conservatory, Oberlin Conservatory, and Lawrence Conservatory. Ms. Klingman also specializes in helping adult singers update their technique so that they can continue performing.

I enjoy tailoring my teaching to the needs of each singer. Singing involves specific techniques which all singers learn. But it is also such a personal and creative art. I enjoy working on all aspects of singing performance: Technique, Interpretation, Languages, Acting, Audition Preparation.

Nancy creates a safe space space to learn. I am enjoying working with her and would definitely recommend her.

    Frequently asked questions

My first lesson with a student is a process of understanding where that person is in vocal development and how we can move forward to achieve their goals.  I always encourage people who are new to singing lessons to try at least 6 lessons.  My students typically make immediate progress.  However, it can take some time to really appreciate the changes and developments.  I also encourage audio/video recording of lessons and have a system for that in my studio.

Bachelor Degree in Voice Performance. University of Denver Lamont School of Music 1977. Master of Arts in Voice Performance 1979. Apprenticeships and many years of coaching in Singing, Languages, Acting, Alexander Technique.

I have always had an interest in teaching. As a highschooler, I was a bilingual intern in the Migrant Children's Education program in Montana. I taught Group Voice and Private Voice lessons as a Graduate Teaching Assistant during my Master's studies and have continued teaching ever since.
While I have worked with a very wide variety of students, I concentrate my work now with people who are interested in learning or improving Classical Singing Technique. This can also include those interested in Musical Theater style. However, I do not teach Belting.

    1. Look for someone with credentials (evidence of past work and education). 2. If the teacher has a website where they talk about their teaching philosophy, this can be a great way to determine whether they would be a good fit for you. 3. Look for testimonials from the teacher's students. 4. I usually recommend that students give it 6 weeks to see if they should continue. Most of the time, you will know before 6 weeks. 5. Both teacher and student should treat the first lesson as a chance to see if this would be a good fit personality wise. As a Teacher, I will be frank about whether I feel I am the right teacher or not. If not, I refer to others who might be a better fit.
