About

I'm a Madison based voice teacher providing lessons from ages 10 through adult. As a teacher, I work to not only help you grow as a singer but also an artist and performer. Lessons include learning music theory, musicianship, sight reading, and audition prep. I'm comfortable teaching in a number of styles, including Classical, Broadway, Folk, Beginning Rock, and Pop/Contemporary.

I've been teaching private lessons since 2009 both in the Milwaukee and Madison areas. My teaching experience includes studios at Wauwatosa School of Music (Wauwatosa, WI,) Madison Music Foundry (Madison, WI,) Academy of Sound (Oregon, WI,) and Maven Vocal Arts (Madison, WI.)

Currently, I teach both in-person and online lessons. Contact me directly for technology suggestions for online lessons.

Frequently asked questions

Each student is different, so there is no "typical" process. We begin by working to establish the student's technique. If you are a new student, we'll spend the first few lessons helping you connect the breath to your voice and exploring your range. If you already have some lessons experience, we will pick up based on your past experience. The most important aspect of our first lessons together is developing a positive working relationship while working the help you find your technique. Communication is such a major part of any private lessons, especially voice, so that is part of the early learning for both of us!

I hold a BA in vocal performance from Luther College and have recently completed MM studies at UW-Milwaukee. My other training includes three summers of performance and langugage study with the Franco American Voice Academy in Salzburg, Austria. In addition, I have taken several courses and classes in Alexander Technique with the Alexander Technique institute located in Milwaukee, WI. I have also completed a number of stage combat workshops with theatres in Minnesota.

I charge $40 per hour for an in-person lesson, $35 for on-line. If I am travel to your home, I charge $45 per hour to allow for gas and transportation costs. Lessons are paid for at the start of each month. You are charged for the full month unless otherwise discussed. I accept Paypal, Venmo, FB, and cash payments. Due to past experiences, I no longer accept checks.

I got started teaching when I was finishing up my undergrad. I've always looked up to my voice teachers, and wanted to pass on what they had instilled in me as a singer and musician.

I've worked with students ages 5 through 84. My students range from kids wanting to build confidence to sing in a school talent show to senior citizens recovering from a stroke.

Some of my students come looking for help for an audition or role prep. Some just come because they love to sing and want to learn more about it!

I believe firmly that every student is on their own journey in voice lessons, and I'm here to help them on it.

Currently, I do not take voice students under 10 but will consider in a case by case basis.

These are YOUR lessons. You are putting your time and money into these lessons. Don't be afraid to ask questions or be upfront about what you are looking for.

Lastly, be honest with yourself- investing in lessons is a process. It may take you a few lessons, or even more, to notice significant changes in your technique. Don't get discouraged, but don't come in with false hopes. Voice lessons, like anything worth having, is a process.

Important to add- don't be afraid to take a few test lessons with different teachers in your search.

If I am not the teacher for you, I understand. I want the fit that is best for you, even if it isn't me.

1. Is this something we've already talked about in lessons?

2. Is this something that my teacher can help with and if so, how?

3. Am I ready to have an open and honest conversation about this?
