About
My name is Jake and I have had a passion for swimming for as long as I can remember. I started swimming competive when I was eight years old and continued all throughout college through competive water polo at the University of Minnesota.
I turned my passion into a career when I started coaching with the Monona Swim Club kids ages 6 to 15 for three years. I have also taught lessons with a variety of local pools and decided to see if I could expand my operations through this website.
Whether you are looking for someone to get you started or looking for some more personallized attention outside of club or high school sports I look forward to helping you reach your goals.
As for necessary equipment, I recommend you provide your own swimsuit and goggles, I can provide the necessary and sanatized accessories, such as kickboards, flippers and hand paddles.
I enjoy helping people acheive their goals and seing them grow as swimmers. Whether that be a best time or improving your skill enough to swim on your own

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to start by figuring out the goal of the swimmer first and how far along they in that goal. I then tailor a plan around them to get them where they want to be in a time frame that works for the swimmer as best I can. When it comes to beginners I start with the kick which is the basis of the entire stroke. I then move onto rotation and finally we put the whole stroke together.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a competitive swimmer since the age of eight and have spent a total of three years as a professional swim coach and five years as a swim instructor. I have primarily worked with children ages 6 to 15. From skill levels of complete beginner to advanced competive club swimmer looking to take their skills to D1 college.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Currently I have a standard price of $25/hour
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching when I began working as a lifeguard for the East YMCA in 2014.
What types of students have you worked with?
Typically children from 6 to 15 of all skill levels.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone that understands your goals and be clear what your goals are. If you simply want to learn how to swim as a basic life skill that can be very different than learning how to master a stroke at the competitive level.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Think through where you are at in your journey, it makes it a lot easier for me to set up a lesson plan if I have a general idea of where you are.
Second is where you want to end. Having a finishing goal helps you know how long we need to work together.
