About

I have been teaching swimming for 26 years at various Madison, Wisconsin-area pools, especially at Madison College. I prefer to teach adults. I have trained all levels, from experienced triathletes to beginners. I was a pool and lake lifeguard for 15 years. Teaching swimming is one of my favorite activities.

I attribute all of my swimming success to Warren. Before I started working with him in 2014, 25m would exhaust me. In 2012, I swam an open water 1/4 mile in 13+ min; by 2014, I swam the same distance in 7:00.
Hes taught me more than speed though. I swim all four strokes now. I have better senses of balance, body positioning, and breathing. Turns and starts arent taxing anymore. I look forward to swimming for fitness because the water feels comfortable and Im a better all-around athlete too.
Warren will guide you where you want to be. Hes at least as committed to his students as they are to themselves. He slows you down when youre reckless and speeds you up when youre lethargic. The time I put in on Saturday mornings with him are going to pay dividends for the rest of my life because thats how long I plan to keep swimming. Thanks to him, youll find me in the pool long after my knees keep me off the track.

Warren has been a swimming instructor for me for just about one year now. In that time, Warren was able to build not only my very rough skills but also my confidence. It is clear that Warren is able to work with any skill level. As I advanced in skills, Warren was able to keep me challenged all along the way. His technical skills are excellent. His mentoring skills are just as good. Whenever I would get discouraged, Warren had a way of changing my attitude for the better. We need more instructors like Warren. To sum up, I think he would be an excellent instructor to other instructors.

Frequently asked questions

Every swimmer or aspiring swimmer is different. We work on the things each swimmer needs to work on next to meet their short-term or long-term goals.

I have been certified twice as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, the first time because I wanted to teach swimming, the second because I had allowed my certification to lapse, missed teaching swimming, and took the three-month course again. Our strokes were rated on a possible ten-point score. I received 10's on Breastroke and Elementary Backstroke, 9's on Front Crawl (a.k.a. Freestyle), Backstroke and Butterfly.

I prefer to teach at Madison College, Madison WI, which charges $25 for a 30-minute private lesson.

After I became a certified lifeguard, I developed an interest in becoming a swimming instructor. I also became a certified lifeguard instructor.
