Suni Lei's Piano Studio

Suni Lei is a collaborative artist, piano instructor, and composer. She was born and raised in China, where she got selected by the Middle school affiliated to the Shenyang Conservatory of Music and completed her early music education in this nationally renowned school. Suni has competed in competitions including the Rebecca Marriot Champion Piano Competition and China Contest Area Preliminary Contest of US International Piano Competition in honorable mention. After high school, she came to the United States to study piano and composition at Utah Valley University. Suni was the recipient of a full scholarship in piano performance from 2013 to 2017. Additionally, she gained her piano collaborate experience with the UVU Symphony Orchestra and UVU Opera workshop. Her private instructors included Dr. Hilary Demske, Dr. Koji Attwood, Dr. Hsiang John Tu, Prof. Nathan Hofheins and Prof. Todd Sorensen. In 2017, she received her dual Bachelor’s degree in piano and composition from Utah Valley University.

As a composer, her work has been commissioned and presented by Shi Chao’s Vocal Band Concert in Jiangmen city recital hall in 2018. After completing her undergraduate studies, Suni taught piano and music theory in TianYun Music School. Later, she moved to Chicago, where she studies piano with Dr Susan Tang and Dr. Kay Kim. In 2020, she earned her master’s degree in piano pedagogy at Northeastern Illinois University. During 2019-2023 She actively worked with soloists and school orchestras in the Chicago area, and also taught private lesson in NEIU community music program and Sky Music Co.

Suni recently relocated to Tuscaloosa with her husband, Qiaofu, who began teaching at the University of Alabama. In her free time, Suni loves traveling with her husband and their dog named Muaji.
