Mr. Orme is an exceptionally knowledgeable, caring and professional. He taught my daughter at age 5 how to play piano, read music and most importantly develop a love for the pursuit of music. Through Mr. Orme’s teachings she learned how to play with a depth and methodology that could be applied to other instruments as well. Mr. Orme is a true professional and working with him as a parent is easy. He is communicative and I truly appreciate the gift of music that his lessons have given my child (especially at such a young age)!

Mr. Orme is a wonderful music teacher for the family and extended families. My own three children and my sister’s two children are his many students. He has been and is still teaching my youngest child to this present day for about almost 10yrs. The rest have graduated and have gone off to college. Even through covid and pandemic my youngest continues to have lessons online via Skype. My child is still playing very well and is doing a great job. Music pieces have gotten more elaborated and sophisticated throughout the years. It is wonderful to see the advances and the level of skills he have acquired. From beginning piano of simple notes to classical Beethoven and some Jazz. As a mother I am very proud of my children achievements. I absolutely love and appreciate Mr. Orme for his love of music, teaching, and dedication to all his students learning. My sister’s one child did got a chance to advanced and performed at Carnegie Hall. We all love and appreciate Mr. Orme for his dedication to teaching. Thank you for being a wonderful Music teacher to our families.

Frequently asked questions

It is important for a student to feel comfortable with their teacher, and so typically when I first meet you I will want to get to know you, find out exactly what excites you about music and why you want to learn. If you have played before, I will also ask you questions to help give me an idea of your previous musical experience. Very often students are nervous when they meet a new teacher for the first time, so my main aims are to make you feel relaxed and to inspire confidence. Always remember that the student/teacher relationship is very definitely a two way thing, so at the end of your first lesson I will ask you if you feel that you can work with me. If you think that I am not the right teacher for you then please say so! I will not be offended at all and since our first meeting is a free trial lesson you won’t have lost anything!

I have a Bachelors Degree in music plus a teaching diploma combined with nearly 40 years experience as both a classroom music teacher and private instructor. I also hold a current Arizona k-12 teaching certificate specializing in music and have a current Arizona fingerprint clearance card which means that I have undergone all necessary background checks to enable me to teach and work with students.

I started teaching while I was studying for my Bachelors degree in the UK. It was a great way for a student to earn extra money! As a result of this I realized what fun teaching was and how rewarding it could be and decided to pursue a career as a music teacher. I've been doing it ever since!

I've worked with a wide range of students over the years, including those with special educational needs and physical disabilities. The youngest student I have taught was just 4 years old, and going to the other end of the spectrum I've given lessons to many senior citizens, the oldest being 78. You are never too old to start an instrument!

It's hard to single out an individual moment, because I've had so many memorable experiences over the years. However, just in general, I still get a buzz after nearly 40 years of teaching when I see a student "get it" and achieve results. I love what I do!

Take your time choosing....remember that you don't have to take the first teacher that comes along because it is important to find someone who  makes you feel comfortable so that you can build a good working relationship with them. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Every question is important, and you are not expected to know the answers or you wouldn’t be talking to me! So if in doubt ask...and if you still don't understand ask again! It's my job as a teacher to help you understand...and I love it when you do:)

Why did you choose this particular instrument? What inspired you to want to learn to play it?  Have a clear idea as to exactly what it is you are hoping to learn and why you want to do it!  Would your daily routine allow you to find time to practice regularly?  Many students mistakenly think that the total amount of time  spent practicing is more important than how often they practice. This is not true! 15 minutes regular practice 6 days a week is so much better than going for 3 or 4 days without playing and then sitting down and trying to do an hour straight off! Why just 6 days? I always allow myself to have one day a week off, and  always return to the piano refreshed and ready for more. You should do the same...it really works!
