Hi, there. I’m Ted Davidson, and I’m back in the game. A necessary, lengthy “time out” has helped me in any number of ways. For example, I now realize that I approach golf as both an artist and a scientist. First, as a golfer, I’m a professional performance artist. I like to think that my moves are as artful as Baryshnikov’s. I’ve played on Professional Tours for over 23 years, until long-delayed spinal operations a few months ago forced me to take a vacation. I’ve also known for a long time that I’m better than most pros at training people to play better golf. But during my time off, I re ... View Profile

Learn from a single digit handicap player, not just a "pro" who runs a golf shop who probably can't break 80. I am a low single-digit handicap player and I will show you what you are doing wrong in your swing, why it's wrong, and what to do right all for half of what a "pro" charges. After our first lesson, if you don't feel like I have started you down the path of enlightenment, you don't have to pay me a dime. All levels welcome. ... View Profile

Golf Made Simple By Matt Rubin

Hey there my name is Matt Rubin and let me tell you how my service will stand out. Golf is an amazing game that can also be amazingly difficult. Not only can it be difficult but it can also be intimidating and confusing. There is a lot of information out there in the golfing world and it can be overwhelming, but that is where I come in. I believe the key to golf is to simplify everything, the more simple you can make it the easier it becomes. Once you simplify and start to learn what is really happening in the golf swing, everything becomes much clearer. Then when you understand what is really happening in the golf swing you can start to intr ... View Profile

Todd Dugan Golf Instruction

In my 20+ years of teaching hundreds of students, logging thousands of hours on the lesson tee, I have concluded that there are two major errors of the strike which plaque the recreational golfer; 1. A tendency for the clubface to be open at impact. This causes the ball to curve or slice to the right and triggers a chain reaction of compensations or bad habits to develop. 2. An inability to hit sufficiently downward. Only by delivering a descending clubhead into impact can the ball be consistently struck cleanly on the “sweetspot” before the clubhead runs into the ground behind the ball.  Both of these errors are not an issue ... Glendale Golf Instruction

With its almost endless sunshine and its wide-open, dramatic desert landscapes, Phoenix is a golfer’s paradise. There are more than 200 courses in the Phoenix and Scottsdale areas, with about a dozen others at Payson, Prescott and Sedona, and in the past three decades or so this has become a prime destination for championship events and golfing holidays.

PGA is active throughout the region, with programs at many of the prime courses, and instruction is given by its own or LPGA accredited professionals.

Metro area
Narrowing it down to the Phoenix metropolitan area, there are 35 public, private and resort golf courses, each within easy travelling distance of the city center.

Amongst the public courses, Papago is generally regarded as the best city-owned course in the state. Designed by Billy Bell, it opened in 1963 and a few years ago underwent extensive renovation. A challenging course it nonetheless welcomes beginners and has a number of professional instructors on the roster.

Golf school
Cave Creek is another very popular city-owned course, located in the northern part of Phoenix near North Mountain Park, and laid out as part of a landfill reclamation project in 1983. A driving range and golf school are available at Cave Creek.

Stonecreek Golf Club is a links-style public golf course that has a public driving range as well as a short-game practice area, and offers instruction from a number of PGA professionals.

Nine-hole
The Adobe Dam Family Golf Center offers lessons for all ages and is a very informal facility. This is a nine-hole public course, of which there are a few more in the area: notably these include Palo Verde, Paradise Peak West, and Encanto, where there is also an 18-hole course.

The 500 Club is an 18-hole championship course set amongst the foothills of northwest Phoenix. The club offers open play to the general public and resort guests and is one of only a few public-daily fee courses in the state with scenic mountain views and an unblemished desert landscape. Professional instruction is offered, and junior programs are available.

Golf Made Simple Golf Schools holds classes at the Trilogy Golf Club at Vistancia, in Phoenix. The location is home to tall native grasses, wide desert vistas, mountain backdrops and gently rolling terrain. The course has dedicated training facilities, with a private teaching area and a nine-hole instruction course marked out on the 18-hole course.

Young players
For young players, the First Tee of Phoenix is a non-profit organization to bring golf and golf learning facilities to youngsters, coupling character development with teaching the basics of the game. Membership and classes are for those aged seven to seventeen, there is a low annual membership fee, and training programs organized in partnership with the City of Phoenix and at municipal courses throughout the Valley.

Young people considering golf as a career might like to visit the Golf Academy of America in Phoenix, where they can have an overview of the school curriculum, meet the pro trainers, and even enjoy a free round of golf.
