Hi, there. I’m Ted Davidson, and I’m back in the game. A necessary, lengthy “time out” has helped me in any number of ways. For example, I now realize that I approach golf as both an artist and a scientist. First, as a golfer, I’m a professional performance artist. I like to think that my moves are as artful as Baryshnikov’s. I’ve played on Professional Tours for over 23 years, until long-delayed spinal operations a few months ago forced me to take a vacation. I’ve also known for a long time that I’m better than most pros at training people to play better golf. But during my time off, I re ... View Profile

I am a low single-digit handicap player and I will show you what you are doing wrong in your swing, why it's wrong, and what to do right all for half of what a "pro" charges. Hey there my name is Matt Rubin and let me tell you how my service will stand out. Golf is an amazing game that can also be amazingly difficult. Not only can it be difficult but it can also be intimidating and confusing. There is a lot of information out there in the golfing world and it can be overwhelming, but that is where I come in. I believe the key to golf is to simplify everything, the more simple you can make it the easier it becomes. Once you simplify and start to learn what is really happening in the golf swing, everything becomes much clearer. Then when you understand what is really happening in the golf swing you can start to intr ... View Profile

Both must come together to achieve personal expectations. Since the performance of the game is based on the individual’s ability, we will customize each lesson for each specific student. In my 20+ years of teaching hundreds of students, logging thousands of hours on the lesson tee, I have concluded that there are two major errors of the strike which plaque the recreational golfer; 1. A tendency for the clubface to be open at impact. This causes the ball to curve or slice to the right and triggers a chain reaction of compensations or bad habits to develop. 2. An inability to hit sufficiently downward. Only by delivering a descending clubhead into impact can the ball be consistently struck cleanly on the “sweetspot” before the clubhead runs into the ground behind the ball.  Both of these errors are not an issue ... PGA World Class Golf Instruction

Ted Davidson · Scottsdale, AZ

What or who inspired you to start teaching?

Being born in Palm Springs, California on December 1, 1971 was an absolute blessing and great opportunity with the desert valley being at the time the golf capitol of the world. I started playing at 6 years old and competing in tournaments at age 9 with my first win 8 months later. My freshman year at Indio High School at age 13 I started working at Reflections Golf Club in Palm desert, Ca. I wasn’t old enough to get paid so they gave me free golf but the biggest benefit was teaching me the golf swing. The owner of the club had worked with players on the PGA Tour and he taught me the golf swing the right way. He taught me that playing golf is an amazing feeling but seeing people hit shots they couldn’t normally do is just as rewarding.

Tell us about your passion for teaching

Before I left for the Army at Fort Knox, KY I had about 9 months of waiting. I chose to go to work at a course in Riverside, CA and it so happened the GM of the course was the same owner of my first job at 13. I was allowed to teach at night for money because Mr. Marcouzzo knew I knew the golf swing. He taught me to use what people have and not try and mold everyone into one swing. A complete focus on fundamentals, Set-up which is 90% of the swing it dictates the rest of your swing, path, plane, ball flight, ball striking. Keep it simple he said set-up, swing path and tempo and balance and you’ll see people improve. I’ve given over 17,000 golf lessons all over the world and have loved every minute of it.

What types of students have you worked with?

As my game progressed and I started playing professional tournaments so did my student clientele. I’ve been very fortunate to have taught players and people from all walks of life from young juniors to high level executives at the top of the business world. I would say that my biggest sense of achievement is when you’re with a student and you’re out there for hours and you’re working and finally that one shot clicks and the student looks at you and you both know that’s why we’re out here.

What advice would you give aspiring students?

I would say if I had to give any suggestions for golfers that are looking for an instructor it’s like any other relationship professional or personal. There needs to be a common rapport between teacher and student. I have always tried to be flexible and understand my students’ personalities, needs, goals, and learning styles. I genuinely love people and even more love teaching people this amazing game and all it has to offer. It’s not just a game it’s a way of life and I love sharing it.
