About

I have been teaching for over 13 years. I have a Bachelors degree in Music Therapy. My teaching focuses on the individual. Each student learns differently and has unique goals. I work really hard to be creative to meet the student where they are at and personalize each lesson to that individual. I have fun resources like a finger piano, piano mat and white board for my young wiggly students. I focus a lot on theory, technique, and classical pieces for my serious students. I am passionate about the piano and teaching and I would love to hear about your goals.

As an older adult student, I had a few goals I was looking to reach and she recognized my problem areas and helped to address those challenges.
She helped me with a better understanding of Music Theory, she helped me to become a better sight reader, and most importantly she made me feel the music I was playing. She has made me a better more confident player! I loved my lessons!
Melissa is not only dedicated and skilled in her trade but friendly ,we laughed, she made me feel at ease while playing, an inspiring teacher who makes learning fun!
I highly recommend Melissa ,I am sad she is moving, she will not be easily replaced!

Melissa is a wonderful piano teacher. She taught our son for 1 year, coming out of Covid. He had almost 2 years of remote lessons before lessons with Melissa. Melissa is a very capable, flexible teacher. There were times lessons needed to be rescheduled due to illness, close contacts, and scheduling. She always worked with us to get the most lesson time for our kiddo.
I cant even tell you how much our son progressed over the past year. She was able to break down techniques and theory for him to be able to apply the skills. We are sad to see her relocate but so glad she was our sons teacher. If you are fortunate enough to fit into her schedule, do your child a favor and sign up.

After weeks & weeks of looking for a piano teacher, I thankfully ran into Melissa, a very patient teacher who is super nice. I needed someone who could be outside the box when teaching me, since I am (an adult) self taught. I can play, but was not really able to read music & had no clue how to read rhythms (I play mainly by ear & improv). She was able to adapt to my needs. In just under a couple of months I am already so much better at sight reading & able to understand timing alot better! She’s also great about not boxing me in or closing off my improv abilities. Melissa helps me to grow in my creativity. I continue to play what I like while still being disciplined to learn music theory & stick to reading a song of my choice AS WRITTEN- lol (which is not easy for me to do). She is super talented, sings like an angel by the way & lessons are a lot of fun! I have been very pleased. She has armed me with some great tools & able to know where to fill in the gaps where I was lacking (so that light goes on). I would highly recommend her as I believe she will adapt to any students needs.

    Frequently asked questions

I like to see where they are right now. If they have had piano lessons before, I like them to bring their music and play their reproitore for me. Then I start where they are at, fill in the holes if they have them, and go from there! I love working with new students of all ages. It is so exciting!

I have a bachelors degree in Music Therapy from Arizona State University. My instrument at ASU was piano. I have played the piano since I was 5, and I feel like it is a big part of who I am.

    $30 for a 30min lesson

    $45 for a 45min lesson

    $60 for a 60min lesson

Teaching just comes naturally to me. I have always loved playing. In High School during lunch I used to sneak away and find a piano to play. I have accompanied soloists for different events and choirs of all shapes and sizes. Playing the piano brings people together, brings conversation, and others around you form a desire to want to learn. I love teaching, I love seeing my students learn and grow.

I have worked with all types of students. My youngest student was 5 years old, my oldest 85. I have also taught individuals with special needs, and welcome them! I have taught adults, home school kids, everyone! By having a background in music therapy, I really tailor my teaching style to work best for each individual student and their strengths and weakness.

I had a student play in a composition festival. It was a really big deal. She composed this beautiful, complex piece. I helped her along with it and helped her write a professional, printed manuscript. She turned it in to be judged, and came out with top marks in every category, along with it being one of the judge's most favorite pieces! She then got to perform her composition in front of an audience and recieved a trophy. I am so proud of her!

I also had a student win the Janeen Noble Outstounding Music Student Award with a prize of $200.

Look for someone who teaches because they love it. Look for someone who is highly qualified in years teaching and education.
