Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I ask the students about their goals, experience and preferred Music Styles. I individualize the lessons depending upon the age and aptitude of a student. Parents are encouraged to support their child's daily 20-minute practice time at home and are always welcome to sit-in at lessons! The basics of note reading, chording and theory are taught along with performance tips. Recommend 2-year study before quitting or starting a new instrument! My approach is kind & patient. Have fun and flourish!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
4-year college degree and over 40 years of experience teaching and performance.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$30 for weekly 30-minute private lesson, $60 for weekly 1-hour lesson, $45 for weekly 45-minute lesson in my home studio, payable monthly by the first lesson of each month with cash, PayPal or Quick Pay by Zelle. 2 week cancellation notice, makeup lessons available in event of sickness or emergency. Ask about senior discounts and group lessons.
How did you get started teaching?
I began singing in my church choir at age 6, began piano lessons at age 9, traveled & performed with school & community choruses throughout high school & college, minored in music in college, studied the profoundly therapeutic effects of music, found I had an aptitude for teaching & I love sharing my passion for music with others!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with children & adults of all ages, talent levels & abilities.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
On July 5th, 2019 I invited my 8-year-old student to perform a duet with me at one of my Band gigs. We played "Cantina Band" from Star Wars. The student also performed solo "The Star-Spangled Banner". He was brilliant! Audiences love it when I bring my students to perform with my Band!
