Piano Lessons With Brian
About
Personalized, professional piano lessons from Brian Whelihan, an honors graduate from ASU Music Education.
Most teacher’s will try to push a certain method or approach with their students. For me, it’s about meeting the student where they are and adapting my approach as they progress. I also am a big fan of both classical and modern/pop repertoire.
No matter your level of experience with music, I am here to help make you a better musician!
I love teaching piano because it allows for one-on-one interaction that I find so necessary for muscial growth. I find it very rewarding seeing students progress from week to week. I've always enjoyed helping others reach their musical goals beacuse for me being a musican is one of the most important foundations of my life!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I always start by coming to an understanding of the student's experience in music. If you've played before, we'll start by reviewing the last music you worked on. I'll see what needs work and start planning out our musical roadmap right then and there, with you. Based on your goals and what I percieve needs most attention, we'll start moving forward.
If you've never played, we start with the fundementals of music: Rhythm, pitch, harmony, etc. We'll work on proper piano technique and rudiments like posture and scales. Within a few lessons you'll be playing familiar tunes and melodies!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Classically trained since age 10, piano has been my passion for many years. I graduated from Barrett Honors College from ASU with a degree in Music Education.
