Piano, Guitar, Vocal Lessons
About
I am classically trained singer and pianist, as well as a guitarist and singer/songwriter. I have been teaching voice, guitar, and piano privately for 5 years, and am currently the Music Director at two Tucson area charter schools. I earned a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Vanguard University of Southern California, where I gained intensive training in a variety of musical emphases, including both vocal and piano pedagogy, and theory/arranging.
Most of my teaching experience took place in Orange County, California where I was contracted through Dexter Music Academy. Families often requested me by name, due to my efficacy as an instructor and my fun, unique approach to tailoring a specific plan for each individual student. I even received enough referrals from friends of families I taught for that I was able to start my own studio.
My passion for teaching music stems from my passion for performing music. I am a musician, first and foremost, and feel it is important for students to be able to look up to their teacher as a model musician. As someone with a great deal of experience on stage, I can equip my students with skills and preparation to be successful performers.
However, though performance skills are important, my primary emphasis is on building proficient, independence musicians. I do not teach students to look like they know what they're doing, but to actually know what they doing every step of the way. I place a strong emphasis on theory and music literacy, and am able to do so in fun, engaging way. I enjoy creating games and activities to reinforce basic elements of music at every level.
Repertoire and materials will be a combination standard, classical, and folk pieces, as well as pieces tailored to the student's interests and preferred genres. I also work with students who are interested in singing and accompanying themselves on piano or guitar, aiding them in gaining facility of both instruments, then combining the two.
