My name is Luzma Ortiz and I am a professional actress with a passion for coaching and directing.
I have worked professionally as an actor on the stage for over 15 years both in NY and CA as well as on various national tours travelling the US and Canada. I've also worked as an Assistant Director and Director for professional children's theater and college productions on both coasts of the US.
I am a private coach and also teach group workshops where I help students refine their audition and performance materials by developing their natural talents with specific techniques and tools used by profesional actors all over the world.
Some of the things I work on with my students include:
*How to choose and prepare a monologue for auditions
*How to choose and prepare a song for Musical Theater Auditions (including all genres from traditional to Pop/Rock)
*Musical Theater Repertoire (Building your audition book)
*Character development for performance
*And much more...
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with Honors in Acting from the University of California, Irvine and a Certificate from the American Music and Dramatic Academy in NYC. Like most professional performers I am always and forever a student continually taking classes myself as I continue to master my own craft and build my own actor's tool box. As I continue to refine my own skills as an actor I am excited to pass on what I learn to my students.
I look forward to meeting you & feel free to visit my website at: https://www.luzmaortiz.com
My favorite thing to experience as a teacher is when my student has a break through or a discovery. It is amazing to watch the process of growth in each individual student at their own pace.
Luzma was a fantastic help to my 9 year old daughter, who is hoping to break into the acting/musical world. As a parent with no Theatre experience, she really guided us through the audition process and prepared her for her solo songs and dialogue. Luzma is very patient and encouraging with my daughter which made it very easy for her to perform at her best. She could never have done it without her!
A typical first meeting includes: getting to know the student, a short coaching session/assesment of the student's skillset, and discussing short and long term goals for working together.
I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with Honors in Acting from the University of California, Irvine and a Certificate from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NYC. Additionaly I have studied singing privately for over 20 years.
All ages and all skillsets.
Some of my proudest moments are when I get to hear the success stories of my current and former students. Recent announcements include: a Broadway debut in Dear Evan Hansen, a starring role in the London production of Dream Girls, an understudy to a lead role on the tour of Les Miserables and several singer roles on various cruise ships.
Know what it is you would like to work on and develop with your teacher before meeting with them so you will know what to look for.
What are your strengths and weaknesses? What are your short & long-term goals? Who are your favorite playwrights, Composers, Lyricists, Performers and why?
