Kristyn Van Cleave has grown up in San Jose, California and has studied piano since the age of 6. She participated in MTAC's Certificate of Merit program and received multiple awards and scholarships. A graduate of San Jose State University, she received a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and has taught piano privately since 2007. She has studied under Dr. Gwendolyn Mok, Dr. Namik Sultanov, Dr. Terrance Rust, and Sharon Brook. In addition, Kristyn has extensive experience in solo and collaborative performance, having performed throughout California and France. Kristyn is incredibly passionate about sharing her love of music with her students and community.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I teach students how to read music- not only how to intrept the notes and rhythms on the page, but how they can have an emotional connection with the music in order to bring it to life. I do not expect perfection from myself students, because absolute perfection is impossible, (I do not wish to produce robots of techinical mastery and no musicality) but I expect them to do their best! I also take time during each lesson to incorporate music theory, ear training, and sight reading practice, as these are all important factors of learning an instrument!

$35 for 30 min lessons
$52.50 for 45 min lessons
$70 for 1 hour.
If I am traveling more then 15 miles to your home, I may charge $5-$10 for gas/travel expenses.
