About

Hi there! I’m Anna Sparks, and I’m passionate about making piano lessons a fun and rewarding experience for your child.

My teaching approach blends the well-loved Faber Piano Adventures books with a mix of classical music, technique, ear training, sight reading, and fun music theory activities. This combination ensures your child gets a well-rounded musical education.

I hold diplomas in piano performance and pedagogy from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM).

I know some parents might wonder, "Can online lessons really work?" The answer is yes! I currently teach over 30 students virtually. Their progress is excellent, on par with in-person students, and the lessons are fast-paced and fun! I host virtual recitals twice a year—it's a great way for them to share their progress and celebrate their hard work.

For beginners, I recommend 30-minute lessons once a week, which cost $25.

Outside of teaching, I love playing piano and organ at my church, and I conduct the church orchestra and bell groups. During the pandemic, I even ran an international virtual choir and orchestra, which was an amazing experience in bringing people together through music.

If you’re considering piano lessons for your child but have questions about how it all works, feel free to reach out. I’m here to help and would love to chat more about how we can make music a joyful part of your child’s life!

She’s such an amazing piano teacher! I love her style of teaching she’s always so encouraging as well as giving great techniques to help my daughter during practice. I was skeptical about doing online practice but honestly this was the best decision I could have made. We love Anna

    Frequently asked questions

In the first week, I offer a free trial lesson where I introduce the student to the piano and teach a few songs. This helps them get a feel for my teaching style while I learn about their musical background, goals, and interests. It’s also a great opportunity to build a connection and for parents to ask any questions. My main focus is on making everyone feel comfortable and excited about starting this musical journey together!
I hold diplomas in piano performance and pedagogy from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). Over the years, I’ve had the joy of leading choirs, orchestras, and bell groups at my church, where I also play the piano and organ. In addition, I have led several international virtual orchestras, bringing together hundreds of musicians of all ages and skill levels. I’m truly passionate about uniting people through the power of music!

First and foremost, think about why you want to learn music and what you hope to achieve. Are you looking to play your favorite songs, prepare for exams, or just explore music for fun? Once you have a clear idea, share those goals with any prospective teacher—this helps them understand how to best support your journey.

It’s also important to find a teacher who feels like the right fit for you. Look for someone who is experienced in teaching students at your age and skill level and who enjoys working with the style of music you’re interested in. A teacher with a positive and encouraging attitude can make all the difference, helping you stay motivated and excited to practice. The right teacher should inspire you to keep growing and make music a joyful part of your life!

It’s important to have a clear sense of what you (or your child) want to achieve with music lessons. Here are a few key questions to consider:

🔹What are your goals? Are you looking to play for fun, or do you have more specific objectives, like performing in recitals, participating in competitions, or preparing for assessments?

🔹What styles of music do you enjoy? Knowing what genres or pieces excite you can help ensure your lessons are tailored to your tastes and keep you motivated.

🔹Do you want to play in specific settings? For example, are you interested in learning to play for worship services or in another community setting?

🔹Do you play other instruments, or plan to in the future? This can influence your learning approach and help your teacher support your broader musical journey.

🔹Thinking through these questions before you talk to potential teachers will help you find someone who’s a great fit for your goals and can guide you on the path you’re most excited about.
