About
Heya, my name's Skyler James from Houston Texas recently located to L.A. I am an independent songwriter/music teacher who has had some amazing opportunities I'd love to share with you. Over the past year I've transitioned from being the front man of a successful band, Drop Out Vegas (Spotify Viral Hit #4 In World Charting 7 Days, Opening for Estelle/Pussycat Dolls), to teaching everything I've learned from the experience, and working on a solo release scheduled for early next year. :)
It is my passion in life to work with musicians on their songwriting, arrangement, voice, well being, and promotion of their music, and I would absolutely love to work with you on via Skype/Facetime or at my home in L.A.! If you would be interested in learning new songwriting techniques, or music business strategies comprised of marketing, branding, and big picture visualization in a flexible and affordable online format please shoot me a message.
Hope we can work together soon on your craft.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Every student is an individual with unique needs and skills. We will spend the first lesson gauging your long term goals as a musician, and coming up with weekly and quarterly goals to use as stepping stones edging us closer to your dreams as a musician.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was apprenticed to a Grammy-Songwriter for all of my teen years and then promoted to a head songwriting coach at her private music school working with over 80 songwriters in a class format each week. From then I have taught music privately for 5 years ranging from in-home tutoring to Skype consultations. In the pursuit of artistry, I have written music with multiple Grammy-Winners and have well over 200 professional gigs under my belt.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I accept payment 1 week prior to each month, with a 1 month notice cancellation policy
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My first band, Drop Out Vegas has done many professional gigs opening for acts such as, Estelle, The Pussycat Dolls, Big Feedia, Opus Orange.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Music should ALWAYS be fun! The most collaborative environment is one you feel you are working with a close friend. I create a safe space for open expression so we can dive deep into the core reasons for pursuing your artistry.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Know your goals! Be ready to pour yourself into the music and know that however much energy you put into your dreams, you'll receive that much back in turn!
