I am one of the top 10 piano teachers on Lessons.com. As a graduate of St. Petersburg Conservatory (Russia), and with a PhD in Music from UCSD, I am familiar with both the Russian and American systems of musical education.
I have extensive experience, and enthusiasm for teaching piano. Both children and adults are welcome!
I enjoy teaching and helping students to achieve their goals. For me, love to music and expressive performance are the most important components of musical education. I developed a very rounded and individualized program, including elements of ear training and rhythmic exercises, applied music theory, and knowledge and appreciation of different musical styles. I have inspiring piano recitals of my students, which are devoted to various themes and countries, such as "Music and Nature", "Music and Dance", "Fairy Tales in Music", "Images of Spain and Latin America", or "Contemporary Composers for Children". These concerts nave won many awards from The Music Teachers Association of California.
I am 63 years old and have dreamed of playing piano my whole life. 4 years ago I decided to get serious after 40 years of half hearted attempts. I found Vera after some serious searching and have been extremely satisfied. Although at times it has been difficult Vera has stayed with me using many varied approacuhes and I am now a legitimate intermediate piano player. I have learned more of theory and piano technique in the last 4 years than all of the previous 40. Vera can teach all ages and if it is your desire to become more than an average piano player I strongly recommend you interview Vera. You will be richly rewarded.
Vera has been an amazing piano teacher for our children. Both of our children started at 4.5 years old and have been with Vera for 7 and 4 years each. Each have different depths of interest and instinctual abilities in piano and Vera recognizes this and adjusts their speed of progression accordingly. Vera’s teaching method can be described as a combination of traditional theory combined with enabling students to emphasize their individual creativity. Vera emphasizes proper technique and theory early on to lay the foundation for students to play very complicated pieces many years later. She teaches children to understand the theory and how the composer intends it to be played, but encourages students to interpret and play in their own, unique style. Both my husband and I love listening and playing music as amateur musicians with >8 years of traditional training each. After about 5 years of training with Vera, both or our children’s instinctual and music theory knowledge have exceeded ours. If you are serious about music, interested in your children excelling in and appreciating music to either become a professional musician or just be able to play well for the love of music, Vera is a perfect teacher.
Ms. Vera has taught both my sons how to play piano, read music, ear testing and complete Level Six and Level Eight of the Merit! She is so patient with young students and challenges the most experienced to achieve the highest level of play. We have been with her for 15 years! The Recitals in June and December were wonderful memories for all of us! Our family is so grateful to her for her piano expertise.
