About this pro

I have been teaching music to students of all ages since I graduated with my BA in Music from UCSD in 1990. I own a lovely studio in Encinitas on El Camino Real with rooms dedicated to voice, piano, and drums. I play in two popular local bands and am well versed in pop, rock, and musical theater!

I love what I do! Watching “the lights go on” is my favorite thing, especially when the student felt baffled at first. I enjoy teaching adults as much as my youngest students and approach each lesson and student individually with the patience, respect, and kindness they deserve.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I understand each student is unique and that one cookie cutter approach doesn’t fit all. I take each student on their own individual merits, always compliment their achievements and try to shed light on their trouble spots. I’m a patient and caring teacher who understands the importance of individuality and I tailor my lessons accordingly.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

i have a BA in Music from UCSD and have been teaching every since I graduated from there in 1990. I’ve also studied privately with Martin Grusin and Phil Larson.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Half hour lessons are $38 and you pay for four lessons at a time. I allow makeups if you cancel within 24 hours.

How did you get started teaching?

I’ve always been a teacher at heart. When we played “school” as kids I was always the teacher!

What types of students have you worked with?

I’ve worked with every type of student, young and old, including students with special needs.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I really enjoy our “open mic” performances! Three times a year my students get to perform for family and friends. I love watching the proud students and parents beam over their accomplishments!

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Make sure the teacher you choose is a good fit. Some students thrive with a strict teacher; others prefer a more relaxed approach. You won’t know a teachers style until you meet with them!
