About

I love to help students achieve their full potential in music. Whether with voice or piano, I meet the student where they are and we progress at the student's best pace.

I love teaching. It's that simple. I love helping people achieve their goals and learn that part for the school play or choir, or to get better at the piano and learn to play their favorite songs or classics. I love working in Italy in the summers with top-level vocalists at the International Lyric Academy. Seeing my students achieve with All State and National Choirs and in various music competitions and college scholarships brings me a great sense of achievement. Let me help you reach your goals!

    Frequently asked questions

In the initial lessons we get to know each other as I assess where the student is right now in their development--especially important for students coming to me from other teachers. When a student is starting with me as their first teacher, I introduce ideas and assess how the student applies the knowledge and how the student processes information. This allows me to customize instruction to the student to maximize results.

Due to coronavirus and COVID-19, all lessons are online via Zoom, Facetime, or Skype.

Voice students need 2 devices, one for the connection and the other to play voice warmups and accompaniments while they sing along. A USB Microphone is great but not required. Microphones in iPhones and Android phones are quite good.

Piano students need a connection device like a phone or tablet and a camera person (usually the parent). If desired there are clip-on phone holders available from Amazon for under $15 that can clip on to a chair and give a good view of the student's hands on the keys.

I have always been teaching people how music goes since an early age. My official teaching career began in my studies at University of California San Diego, where I was a graduate assistant. That's where I discovered my passion for teaching and began teaching regularly.

I have worked with a large range of students including those with learning disabilities or autism (high functioning only). I have also worked with legally blind students (voice) and those students who preferred to work only in Italian rather than English.

I can make accommodations in the lesson for whatever the student needs.

I am currently working with Mission Opera in Los Angeles area to make virtual choir recordings, and we had our first meetup on Zoom. These virtual choir recordings can allow singers from all over the world to participate and it was super cool to meet everyone.

    My advice would be

-make sure your teacher has training in how to teach

-make sure your teacher is a professional and not just good at something

-have a lesson and see that you feel like there is a rapport between you and the teacher

-make sure that the teacher is nurturing and encouraging. Teachers should never make you feel bad.

-note your progress. If you are practicing regularly but stuck, tell your teacher. Make sure you give them a chance to correct any practicing issues and any concepts you might not have grasped. If you or your child has been taking lessons for a while and have been stuck on the same 2 songs or not making progress, you might want to look for a new teacher.
