About

Ms. Rodgers has extensive teaching experience with students of all ages. Beginning her teacher training at The String Project in Detroit, Michigan, Grace has developed a flexible and nurturing teaching style with a focus on catering to the individual student’s needs. Ms. Rodgers has taught in local music schools and after school programs since 2010. She currently maintains a private teaching studio in addition to teaching violin classes at The Harmony Project.

Ms. Rodgers understands the importance of a well-rounded music education and incorporates The Suzuki Method with note reading, music theory, and other traditional violin etudes and methods. While standard classical repertoire is a must for establishing the basics, Grace is also passionate about exploring the music of lesser known composers and exposing her students to a variety of genres.

Intentional practice is a key component in Grace’s studio, and a big part of private lessons is learning how to set up an effective practice on your own. Above all, her students will experience a safe and constructive learning environment with an emphasis on technique, musicality, and consistent progress no matter their age. Whether you are preparing for an audition, are a casual adult learner, or a young student looking to start their violin journey, Contact Ms. Rodgers or fill out the form below to discuss Zoom or in-person violin lessons.

Grace is excellent with my 12 year old daughter. We always leave lessons feeling ready for even more practice. Grace makes practice plans super easy for my daughter, and I have seen so much progress since we started with her.

    Frequently asked questions

When I first start teaching a new student, I get to know their learning style. Whether it is a first time violin player, or someone who has been playing for 5 years, everyone has a unique learning process.

My beginning students will learn the basics of holding the instrument and how to identify the different strings and notes. We will then begin learning short pieces and technical exercises.

If a student is coming to me with a few years of experience, we will work together to decide the best plan of action for continuing their musical studies.

I received my Bachelor of Music with a Concentration in Violin Performance from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. under Dr. Laura Roelofs. During my undergrad I trained for four years with the String Project at Wayne State teaching group violin classes and string orchestra. Since 2009 I have maintained a private violin studio teaching students of all ages and skill levels. In addition I have taught at music schools and after school programs, and am currently a violin teaching artist at Harmony Project.

My first introduction to teaching started in my middle school orchestra. I had already been playing violin for a number of years, so was a bit ahead of my classmates who were just starting their instruments during orchestra class. My orchestra teacher had me lead a few sectionals for my classmates and encouraged me to keep helping others and to keep music education as a part of my music career!

I have worked with students of all ages and skill levels. My group violin classes consist of students from 10 - 18 years old, while my private lessons range from around 6 years old to adults!

Discuss your goals with your teacher to make sure you are a good match.

What type of music are you interested in learning?

Are you willing to follow the teacher's curriculum to make sure you are playing with proper technqiue before branching out to other types of music?

Do you have any deadlines to prepare for that your teacher should know about?
